b,121The idea that filesharing should be illegal seems preposterous to me.

b,121But why? Bootlegging and such has always been illegal, and rightfully so. The only thing that has changed is that there's now a more efficient delivery mechanism, but to me, "We can now bootleg much easier and cheaper!" is not an argument for legalization.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Ultimately, the distribution of music is the propagation of data. In my opinion, the only reason why we ever had to pay for it was because the internet wasn't there. Does that mean that all music should be free? I'm not sure. I think what it does indicate is that a standard consumer (bought and sold in retail outlets digital, or stroefront) approach to the distribution of music is on its way out/already far gone. Artists should receive compensation, but no one should be disproportionately rich off of music. But that's just my 2 cents.

font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121Quick question for you. Is music first an art then a business? Or the other way around???b,121b,121Once again, I'm not arguing against the idea Artist shouldn't get paid.
b,121Were it sufficiently efficient, I would happily sue everyone who illegally downloaded a copy of my compilation. Lucky for Kala et. al., it's ridiculously inefficient.
b,121
b,121Because of illegal file sharing, my record label is not economically viable. It's only because I make enough money from my real job that I can continue subsidising releasing critically acclaimed music that would otherwise be unavailable.

i have a few questions.b,121b,1211. is it illegal to illegally download some music, listen to it, and then decide it sucks and then throw it in my compooter garbage can thingie? i think that should be mildly legal.b,121b,1212. is it illegal to download major label booboo and then pump it on the innernets cuz i like that major label doodoo and i would in fact be repaying them with my valuable endorsement of said caca major label poopoo? this should be bonafide legal.b,121b,1213. also, what illegal downloadable music should i be illegally downloading? im kinda lite on the current stuff personally.

b,121The idea of suing everyone if you could is not the answer.
b,121
b,121If we were to throw out hypotheticals out there. I'd love to see the day someone finally invents a "replicator" like in Star Trek and farmers start suing people because nobody is buying their apple's any longer.

b,121the idea of suing people who steal from you? the logic in this thread is Palin-esq.
b,121
b,121just because its easy to steal, doesn't make it ok. your "replicator" analogy is misplaced. what you should have said is what if someone invents a way to make yourself invisible, so instead of just stealing music online, we can walk into a best buy and do the same thing with cds and dvds. I guess suing/prosecuting those people would be stupid as well.
font class="post"1b,121b,121I just have to step in to say that if someone invents a way to make me invisible I think stealing cds from best buy would be waaaaaaay down my list of priorities. I'd just rob a bank and then purchase them all with my stolen money.
