Hi.b,121b,121I was lunching with some folks the other day, and that Food record came up. In the course of discussing it, I was trying to tell my man that you once posted talking about your acetate of [i]Forever Is A Dream/i1 that has extra drums on it. He was politely skeptical. Am I remebering your claim correctly? On the one hand I have a pretty clear memory of you saying that (it was in a "Records That Really Mean Something To You" thread [so you [i]know/i1 it was a while ago]), on the other hand, 1) it seems almost too perfect to be real and 2) it seems odd that such a version of that record would exist. b,121b,121I was gonna send this in a PM, but it seems like it might have general interest, so here I am. Hope that's all right.b,121b,121Thanks.b,121b,121b,121james

  • Yes, I have and acetate of the Food record with alternate Mixes - it is an official capital acetate with different dates1than the release of the record (early) so I can only assume that it was a declined mix or something. Before I got on this board i didn't know anyone even cared about that record. I found it in LA about 8 years ago. I used it on the Stepfather DVD menu beats.b,121b,121I posted a picture of the label in that thread.1b,121b,121Tell your boy not to tet my crates img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" 21b,121b,121I am working on a compilation called "1 Known Copy" of Acetates, as that's my game. Hopefully it will come out early next year.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Oh, it wasn't like that at all. I mean, if someone told you that someone else had an acetate version of one of your favorite records and, oh yeah, it's got extra drums on it, too, you might be a little skeptical yourself. You know how it goes.b,121b,121And that sounds like an interesting idea for a compilation. True one-of-a-kind acetates are pretty intriguing because they're of course the ultimate record collector artifact, but at the same time they kinda dead the collecting impulse, don't they? Like master tapes, they sorta represent the end of the road.1Or maybe a more positive way of looking at it would be that they liberate (or at least should liberate) the end listener from the gotta-getta-copy-gotta-getta-copy mania, and force a more philosophical stance, making it easier to just listen (maaaan...). Maybe.b,121b,121Anyway, in the meantime, I will tell my man to check the Stepfather DVD menu beats for a sip of the juice.b,121b,121Thanks again.
