I'm coming to d.c. (from detroit) this weekend to visit my girl. I've never been to d.c. before, so I'm wondering if any strutters have any recommendations on food, bars, etc. and also any events happening this weekend.

  • I'm spinning at the Science Club this Friday night - a href="http://www.scienceclubdc.com/" target="_blank"1http://www.scienceclubdc.com//a1 - chill spot with a great sound system. I'll be playing funk, hip-hop, electro, house, Brazilian, reggae and whatever else I feel like. I'm sure Nitekrawler or Birdman are playing somewhere around town too.b,121My store is called Som Records. I won't be there Saturday (DJing a wedding) but we wil be open. I will be working the register (hopefully!) on Sunday from 12-7PM. - a href="http://www.somrecordsdc.com/" target="_blank"1http://www.somrecordsdc.com//a1b,121For food, my latest fave cheap spot is Chix - a href="http://chixdc.com/index2.html" target="_blank"1http://chixdc.com/index2.html/a1

on the off chance that you're into bizarro cult cinema, there's a rare 35mm screening Friday night of the Rainer Werner Fassbinder-starring sci-fi film KAMIKAZE 89 happening at the Librarty of Congress' Pickford Theatre:b,121b,121a href="http://www.loc.gov/rr/mopic/pickford/pickford-current.html" target="_blank"1http://www.loc.gov/rr/mopic/pickford/pickford-current.htmlb,121(scroll down to bottom of page)b,121b,121starts at 7, over by 9, so leaves you plenty of time to go to one of those other shows.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah I'm sure my dude is psyched to travel 500 miles just to eat at a generic and grimy chinese carryout chain. Maybe afterward he can name drop it on the internet in a limp attempt to bolster his perceived street credibility in a city where he's never lived.

font class="post"1b,121b,121Major cosine. I haven't been back to Yum's since 1993 or so and my shop (and most of my DJ gigs) are less than two blocks from there.

I'm DJing at a href="http://www.marvindc.com" target="_blank"1Marvin on Friday night. Funk, soul, Latin, breaks, etc.b,121Cool atmosphere. Crowd is mixed and more laid back before midnight. Gets younger and more dancefloor heavy later.b,121The outdoor deck is also popular (the DJ booth is unfortunately inside), but there's a more relaxed vibe than most of the places along the U Street corridor.b,121Really good food, but on the higher side for bistro fare. $11 for a 1/2 lb. burger.b,121b,121img src="http://www.djdmac.com/images/upstairsatmarvin6.jpg"1
