What if the US is about to enter another great depression?b,121b,121How would this impact the people on this board who somehow make a living with DJ-in, record dealing and or other record related activities?b,121b,121I would assume that the market for such unessential luxury items as rare, vintage records would collapse, leaving us collectros with a good chunk of our accumulated life savings suddenly turned worthless. I mean there would always be hope that if things turn better again in what 2, 5 or perhaps 10 years, records would again be worth money, maybe even more than before, but who knows?b,121b,121Who would still be able to afford or still want to go out and pay $10 admission for a club? Buy $8 beers? $12 cocktails?b,121b,121In a way, this could actually be culturally healthy and bring forward some creativity in people. Who knows?b,121b,121What do you think?b,121How would you predict an economic worst case scenario to affect-b,1211. -the world of record collecting?b,1212. -the work life of a DJ?b,1213. -your own club related behavior as a consumer?b,1214. -clubs and the sort of entertainment they offer to which price?

font class="post"1b,121b,121You would have to assume that people would drastically change their behavior as a consumer:b,1211. avoid clubs that charge a coverb,1212. get drunk before going out.b,1213. go out less oftenb,121b,121All of the above would severly hit clubs and directly impact the pay of the DJ.b,121You can't cut corners with the $5 an hour you pay your bartenders.b,121b,121b,121/font1

font class="post"1b,121b,121Hmm... I could easily see myself not buying a single record for years to come. You can't compare a passion for records to drug addiction.b,121b,121/font1

font class="post"1b,121b,121Maybe for a while but imagine all those jobless diggers out ther, suddenly having every hour of the day to search for records.b,121Anybody who has records and an idea of what they're worth or what they should be worth would stop selling instead of selling for next to nothing.

font class="post"1b,121Germany's economy is halfway in the shitter as is and the future is not looking too bright. An economic disaster of a large scale that starts in the US could easily tear down the rest of the "first world".b,121People in Europe are already scared shitless by what's going on right now.

It's definitely a scary though. As someone who partially relies of dealing records to keep the lights on it's possibly semi-comforting to know that, as stated above, a good half to two-thirds of the big spenders on the net are not in America... though who knows how the rest of the world might be affected by a full-blown US depression...

font class="post"1b,121b,121b,121In the UK we've been slowly sinking into recession since the sub-prime problems in the US. I don't know about the whole of Europe, but I read Germany and Spain are in trouble also, we're not looking at a depression, but if the US does sink into a serious depression, it will have a global effect for sure. Happy times.
