iTunes Genius - good idea?

so, apparently you need to opt-in to allow iTunes 8 to send information about your mp3 collection to Apple so they can send you recommndations based on your collection, playlist, etc...b,121b,121anyone jump on this yet?

    Media trap...I've been dragging folders of MP3s straight into VLC instead of adding a whole bunch of junk to my iTunes folder. Reminds me of those good'ole Winamp days. If anything, I treat my iTunes like a virtual library of keepers.

    Overall, I'm digging the Genius feature. It's like Shuffle with a brain. Pick any song and it quickly generates a 25 song playlist of "related" songs. The results are decent (though how Metallica's Battery ended up in what should have been a Yacht Rock mix is a digital mystery). Yeah, it's robo-DJ nonsense with no practical value, but it can help you get through a work day.

    font class="post"1b,121b,121Not that kind of event. Get Fam. This was an "Apple event", (not a Macworld or WWDC) which usually takes place in a very small venue. They have even held these on the lawn at 1 infinite loop. For whatever reason, this one was a larger sized "Apple event". b,121b,121"One more thing" is pretty much reserved for MacWorlds and WWDCs.

    font class="post"1b,121b,121Yeah ... you have to activate the Genius feature which involves uploading your library info into the master Genius brain (anonymously ... so they claim). You can just ignore it.
