Same records, drastically different eBay values

I've been looking at eBay price for certain records, and I can never figure out why identical copies and pressings go for 4 or 5 times the price of another - sometimes on the same week from two well-regarded, reputable sellers. Two I'm thinking of right now:b,121b,121b,121Dorothy Ashby - Dorothy's Harp (and "The Rubaiyat Of..." to a lesser degree)$40. What's the hell?b,121b,121This week, high. Sellers count, yes, but I've seen this LP all over the place for years.b,121b,121b,121b,121b,121Neil Young - Time Fades Away (mono)b,121b,121Really?b,121What b,121the b,121fu*k?/a1

    For what it's worth, I've never seen that Neil Young record in the field evar. Maybe it's a regional grail. People heart monos too. That's a late mono mix.

    b,121b,121Probably a fold-town too, considering the year. Some white label promos are of value because occasionally they are considered better than the regular stock copies, and since this album hasn't been officially released on CD (yet, although with his Blu-Ray box set coming, who knows if ever), it appeals to those who may want the LP or want to do a vinyl transfer.

    b,121b,121It seems to me that often buyers are willing to bid higher on records from sellers with a good reputation and/or sellers that come up with the goods on a regular basis. For instance I have seen Funkyou and Anthony Pearson sell certain records for more than they usually go for.b,121Also it completely depends on who's bidding. If you have two bidders that really want a certain record at a certain moment you may be able to get more for it.

    The promo of that Neil Young is actually pretty rare. And normal stock copies are all stereo. I had one a few months ago and didn't notice a real drastic difference when I A/B'ed it with a normal copy though, for whatever that's worth. Neil Young collectors ball out for WLP's, weird variations, etc of his records though.

    b,121b,121well certain 'spiritual jazz' records have certainly gone up in recent years...the billy parker (I guess?) was relatively unknown in 2003...it's a great record though...i guess it's the most expensive strata east title...$426 is pretty high but it's been on a steady increase for the last couple of years...recent auction prices:b,121b,121510 (sealed)b,121320b,121331b,121316b,121306 b,121etcb,121b,121it's been a steady ascent from $50-80 record to $150-200 to well over $300 now!b,121b,121it's not just this one though on the label...b,121b,121just saw that shamek farrah end today for over 300!

    it all depends who is looking and when they are looking...I recently posted an auction for 9.99 and it ended with no bids, so I relisted it with an opening bid of 4.99 and it ended up selling for $40...strange to think that someone could of had it for 10 bucks just a week earlier, but ended up paying $40 a week later...b,121b,121there is that one dude who gets 20X the usual going rate for classic rock shit...real common stuff, cant remember his seller ID but if you look at his completed auctions, it is definitely a WTF moment...$200-$300 for amboy dukes and shit?????!?!!?

    I was watching a jazz LP recently that I have a saved search for... it ended at $9.99, didn't hit reserve, and I forgot to bid. I emailed the seller and made what I thought was a fair offer... clearly the fella disagreed as he re-listed with the starting bid at about double my offer.b,121b,121The record ended at over $200! This is normally a $50 record...

    There are boards out there (including the Steve Hoffman boards) where someone will get into a discussion about a common title, and somehow it takes a bit of identification with matrix numbers and blah blah,and all of a sudden we're seeing $50+ final bids for common records.

    This happens way too often. I was recently checking out this auction to establish a sale price for my copy and stumbled upon this/a1 b,121A couple of days later I checked out another one that just happenned to pop up( I guess the guy was expecting to make as much money as the first one) and it ended at about a third of the price. Look here./a1 b,121b,121These are exaclty the same record. For a second I thought it might be the usual Mono vs Stereo crazyness but it's not. I'm guessing it's just the fact that the US dollar is low and Europeans are taking advantage of the situation. In fact the winner of the first one is in the UK.
