Please to recommend other Floyd Smith? This 45 and Floyd's Blues are the only 3 tracks Ive heard hype over. After hearing the latter, Benny Goodman tried to give him exposure in his group but couldn't free his contract from The Clouds of Joy. He happily found Charlie Christian instead who ends up noted as the worlds premier guitar soloist and Floyd forever anecdoted alongside him. Buuut playing that shit on your laps way smoother IMO, and I just think how straight up out there that track sounds for '39. SACRED STEEL!!!!!
So anything else good? Hy tone? Montclairs? Relaxin' with... Production credits? He seems full of music, looking for more...thx!!!
how often do you see a Dakar record that ISN'T by Tyrone Davis?

oh, yeah, forgot about that Bohannon. actually id put otis leavill in third place - 1969's "i love you" and 1970's "love uprising" were big hits and turn up on the regular.

Yeah, I'd have Otis Leavill 3rd, and maybe Johnny Sayles 4th but even those are a massive drop-off. I've never seen Donald Height on Dakar even though I have him on like 5 other labels. I had a 45 from Gregory James Experience but it was a weak track. There is another one from them that has good songs from the LP.
And "Soul Strut" by Floyd Smith is a killer track. One of the best $5 shing-a-ling 45's out there.

I've never seen a Johnny Sayles Dakar in the field, the Donald Height is ok from what I can remember, not nearly as good as the Shout one or two that I have though I remember thinking, it's later though, getting a bit close to modern. For what it's worth I've never seen the Floyd Smith in the real world either.
Here is the label's 45 run, I don't even think I've seen a Dakar Major Lance come to think of it, only in the e-world. There's definitely a carpload of Tyrone Davis 45s. Some of these titles never turn up.

I remember seeing a pink labelled 45 with black print on it called "soul strut" or "soul struttin'". Didn't pick it up but it sounded quite good and wasn't on a major label as far as I remember...
This is a funny this thread came up - I am playing the Floyd Smith 45 a lot these days, Getting Nowhere Fast side. I got mine for $10 and feel it's worth every penny!
the Donald Height is ok from what I can remember, not nearly as good as the Shout one or two that I have though I remember thinking, it's later though, getting a bit close to modern.
There are two Donald Height singles listed in that discog, so I'm assuming you're referring to the one from '76 as being the "modern" side. (The other 45 is from '73.)

I also have a 45 on Laurie, "Soul Struttin'" by Jamie Lyons, kind of a bubblegum blue eyed soul dancer.
Lyons was the lead singer of the Music Explosion ("Little Bit O'Soul"). This same song was also recorded by the Ohio Express on their first album, Beg, Borrow & Steal.

Just checked my list & yeah, It's the "I Choose You" one from 76. It's a promo with the same song both sides.
This same song was also recorded by the Ohio Express on their first album, Beg, Borrow & Steal.
I love Ohio Express' first album, that "Beg Borrow Steal" 45 is a good one to play out. I remember being pretty surprised how good that 45/album was compared to the later stuff that I knew better but found a bit light.

This was before producers Kasenetz & Katz hooked into the bubblegum deal. But even the Ohio Express' self-titled second LP (w/"Yummy Yummy Yummy") has some legitimately good psych, not at all like their hits.

good luck even getting that
I'm sayin'. The only copy I've ever seen is the one I own.
I have no idea what it's supposed to be going for, but how often do you see a Dakar record that ISN'T by Tyrone Davis?
really? I see this all the time - maybe one per 5000 tyrone davis 45s
haha
do you see it OUT IN THE FIELD cheap?
or AT THE RECORD CONVENTION for $10 and up?
big difference between the two
and people seem to think that CONVENTION/$10 is "dollarbin common" (wrong)
I'm just saying you see it around, collections, stores, old stock, whatever
it's not rare, you could go grab a few buy it nows off ebay if you felt like
a copy just went unsold at $5
15 pounds on john manship = $5 ebay 45

Not to mention the fact that it's from 1981 and not 1977...
Now are those two cool song titles or WHAT?
I'm guessing this HAS to be a country record...
