prepaid iphone account?

i figure its time to stop being such a ludite and get a digi camera and an ipod so might as well get an iphone, but.....does anyone have a pay as you go account on an iphone? i see on some blogs it says to enter a bogus ssn# like all 9's and then you fail the credit check.which then gives you the option for a pay as you go plan..sounds kinda fishy.i don't want a 2 year contract and i dont want to pay a security payment because my credit isnt great.any suggestions?thanks.

I think you can get a prepaid plan with AT&T...I'm pretty sure I heard some guys saying its possible
