graphic design heads stand up, logo design needed

I'm trying to find someone to design a logo for my company . This will be the centerpiece of a new brand identity I'm working on for my company. It's amazing how many hacks try and sell their services. Everyone with Photoshop thinks they can design. I'm willing to pay a fair wage (~$1500 or so) and I keep getting people saying they'll design it for $50. I want a logo that is timeless, avoids web 2.0 effects, avoids logo clich??s, etc. I know there's some talented design heads here. Who are you? Send me a PM if you're interested. Portfolio's are a must. Anyone know good sources to find talented designers? I've tried howdesign.com, graphicdesignforum.com, craigslist and a few others. Any advice anyone?
