I found Ben Sidran's "I lead a life" this weekend. Quite an enjoyable set of tunes. Made me think about blue thumb. I was thinking about asking this q, but instead found this ol' thread. I'll also cheer for Gabor Szabo's "High Contrast." "Fingers" is an awesome track.
This '96 bio in Goldmine suggests that Blue thumb like some other sub-major labels had their stars picked away.
'"Blue Thumb came along and did what they did so well that corporate America started going after their acts," explained Joe Sample. "And one by one, they began to offer their acts a hell of a lot more money than they could pay 'em." '
I certainly like the blue thumb pointer sisters of "How Long" and sesame street counting songs.
I have yet to hear every album on Blue Thumb, but #1 for me will always be:
Then in no particular order: Joao Donato-A Bad Donato Sun Ra-Space Is The Place Lights Out: San Francisco Dave Mason-Alone Together Gabor Szabo-High Contrast The Pointer Sisters-s/t The Crusaders-Crusaders 1
