the plumber one is the best.

My mom loves Peeps, But only if they are crunchy. She would slit the package
and let them sit for a good few months before they were ready.
I heard you can expedite this by popping them in the micro for a few seconds.
They blow up real big like a balloon and then crunch out, or so I've heard.

Does anyone remember Bumpy and Jumpys PopCorn Bunnies???

I've asked so many people and no one knows what I'm talking about.
They were kinda of a sugar coated popcorn ball shaped like a bunny
with one candy eye. The internet yields no results, but we had them in
every basket, every year when I was a kid. Its hard to believe I am the
only one who ever had these or remembers them.
I haven't seen them in at least 10 years,
but they were so good. The highlight of
my non-denominational easter experience for sure.

That and those "lipstick" malt ball eggs that
left the colors all over your mouth when you licked them.
    They still make those.

Haha, I can't even imagine what kind of wild shit he'd come up with.

Plumber's butt wins, followed by The Birds, just cause it's so creepy.

I could never eat a Peep though. Sugar overdose. I've noticed that there are people who are as obsessed with them as with Tweety Bird. You wouldn't believe how many office desks I've seen adorned with every Tweety Bird piece of memorabilia ever made.

Yeah? I might just have to try this to see it blow up.

There's lots of youtube videos if you want to see it in action without messing up your microwave (or Peeps).

Yeah, I put one in the microwave for my kids entertainment and cleaning it up was a bitch.

I'm not sure if they blow up,
I think they just inflate and then deflate.
I suppose its to get the sugars caramelized
and that makes them crunchy?? I'm guessing.

Probably now is the time to experiment
as all the Easter candy is 50-75% off.
There are usually tons of left over unwanted
    peeps for just pennies.

    reminds me of peeps.

  • Ok, I'll do it in someone else's microwave!

Made just outside of Philly...here's a piece on them from the current Philadelphia Weekly:

    The Born Supremacy
Peeps inspire candy fandom like no other. [/b]

    By Erica Palan

It takes exactly 12 seconds to blow up a Peep in a microwave oven.

"They're best when they're fresh," admits spokesperson Milena DeLuca, who's leading a tour of the Just Born factory in Bethlehem, Pa., a town better known for its towering steel mills than for cute little candies.

Beside her, a machine so top-secret it's actually hidden behind curtains spits rows of chick-shaped marshmallows onto a conveyor belt that loops through the entire room. The army of chicks marches through a yellow sugar shower and then moves up a steep ramp to have their eyes???made of carnauba wax???popped on by another machine. The whole process takes about six minutes.

Just Born cranks out 4.2 million Peeps every day, and 1.2 billion a year. The candy is shipped to more than 50 countries. While Peeps are now the company's best-selling product, the candy didn't gain popularity until 1953, when the company acquired the recipe from the Rodda Candy Company in Lancaster.
