What conversion process gives the best sound quality? I'm kinda skeptical of the USB turntable route. Any product recommendations to look into? Thanks

  • Disclaimer: Not a microwave, just a long time collector eager to throw my fav disco & boogie songs on the ipod so when I go running, do the laundry...it's much more enjoyable.
    Thanks in advance

  • I used to run my turntable into a preamp, then record into Logic, but it was too time consuming (cutting, etc). I decided to take the USB turntable route and have nothing but excellent results. I record my 45's straight into Audacity -- if the record has some crackle / pops / clicks / etc, I run it through this ridiculous program I found called "Click Repair" and it cleans up the audio without Frickin' it up (like my experience with sound soap). If you want examples, let me know.

    here's my method:

    vinyl >> cassette >> CD >> mp3(128 kbps) >> minidisc >> mp3 (192 kbps)>> mp3 (320 kbps)

go with TDK cassettes for optimal sonic results
