Never paid much attention to them outside of 'petsounds', but there has got to be more solid work by these guys. curious what they are...certain years to look for?

    Fun, Fun, Fun
    God Only Knows

  • I really like the track Til I die from Surfs Up.
There's a really nice alternate version of this track which sends shivers down my spine. I'll try to download it somewhere and post it later on.

All the early ones, you can't go wrong with quality pop songs about girls, surfing & hot rods. Fun Fun Fun.

I probably own every pre-80s LP

    Thats whats good

  • Anything from this album. Magnificent!

    And this LP:

  • Listen to this...alternate version of Til I Die.

Turn it up and absorb those soundz....

  • Several years back I put together a "Best of 1968-1977" 2-disc mix. I made it for myself so there are some songs on there that I wouldn't really expect a more general audience to care about, but here it is anyway:

Can't seem to find the tracklist right now, but all the important stuff is there.

thanks for the links/downloads people, very cool.

Im feelin the late 60s early 70s stuff personally. Anyone listen to the Holland LP with the fairy tale 45 inside?

The fairy tale is sort of creepy for the most part - just an illustration of where Brian's head was at that point in time. Not a good place.

Holland is a pretty solid record overall, though the high points aren't as high as on other records of the period. I'm a big fan of the bands with Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, and they sound great on this record. "Sail on Sailor," "The Trader," and "Only With You" are my favorite cuts.

You were expecting a band called "the Beach Boys" to have a grittier, more streetz oriented feel perhaps?

Totally. 'Girl Don't Tell Me You'll Write', 'In My Room' and 'Surfer Girl' are just 3 of the gems from the early days.

SAC is in the eye of the beholder. You have the sailing thing in common with them, Young_Regatta.

Yeah, I celebrate their entire catalogue up until the 80s. There's something truly worthwhile on pretty much every album.

Yeah, I agree there is usually a good Brian Wilson song or two on the post Pet Sounds records, but I can usually skip the rest of the tracks.
