A big influence on me has been an old school boston graf head. Wombat. he was basically a mentor to me and schooled me on many levels.
Crazy - I used to hang out with Dar**l back in the 80's when I was a teenager...he also tried to steal a pair of Docs off my boy at a Thayer St. party during his thug phase...dude was always mad cool to me, though, and was one of the truly subtle graf heads out there - like Alert, just killin' it on the DL. Does he still have his gallery on Ma*s Ave?
looks like every: Tokion-Levis-Hipster-Indie Rock sludge that is pumped out to entice the 'cool' demographic. Maybe that guy invented it who knows, but It is a style that I've seen duplicated everywhere.
skrrrrrk... you mean "every Tokion-Levis-Hipster-Indie Rock sludge..." looks like ryan mcginness.
some of my favorites:
[strong]Red Grooms[/strong] these really need to be seen in person to fully appreciate them. top one is a to-scale subway car that you could walk through. bottom one is paper-cut diorama style.
Chuck Close
Vaughn Bode and who? ... FRANK FRAZETTAAAAAAAAA!!!
Herb Lubalin One of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite, graphic designers and typographers of all time. The way he created images out of type and saw shapes in letters and groups of letters is still miles ahead of being reached. Read about him and Avant Garde here. See a short video about a Japanese exhibition of his work here
