what's wrong with Fresh Air? Always some interesting interviews on there. And Terry Gross is hot.

I dig Car talk, Click and Clack are pretty damn funny.
    What about "This American Life"?
For my money that's best show on NPR.

    Ira Glass is the man!

    Who's seen the TV version?
We don't have Showtime so I haven't caught one yet.

  • Car Talk is the same Frickin' thing week after week, but it's a Frickin' great thing week after week. I'll ride.

Terry Gross needs to get her confidence up, ol girl always sounds nervous. And WTF was she thinking when she interviewed Gene Simmons? She was totally unprepared to be eaten alive.

What about Sound Opinions? Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot are pretty much the definition of "you sound white," but it's a fun listen when I'm out and about in the car on a Saturday afternoon.

Still, why does Mavis Staples look younger than both of them

Found out about this show just the other day. The episode where they come to the US and all have $1000 to buy POS cars had me DYING.

yeah, I don't know a damn thing or care about anything car related yet I love this show.

I can't do This American Life. Ira Glass's squeaky nasal voice kinda makes me want to hit him with a tire iron.

  • car talk has got to be the 2nd most annoying show on NPR (1st place honors going to the unfadeable Prairie Home Companion which I swear must have a six hour time slot on Sundays.)

the car talk dudes are soooo boring. it seems that just about anything anyone says is enough to evoke that blood-curling cackle. I would estimate that 50% of the air time of any one of their shows is taken up by the cackle.

^^^(harbors a secret crush for the Splendid Table but won't admit it)^^^

I ride for Car Talk and Fresh Air. I've learned to appreciate PARTS of APHC but no way can I sit through an entire show. And This American Life is unbearable when Ira Glass is hosting. I'll ride for Sedaris in small quantities.

No love for Sound Opinions. Listening to two white dudes (let alone one of them being DeRogatis) arguing over rock and pop is one of my worst nightmares.

My father made me listen to this show driving around
in his car on Saturday afternoons for years, and I learned
to hate it because of that, wanting to hear music instead.

Now that I'm older I can appreciate it a little more, but
that hatred is so deeply ingrained in my being that I don't
think I will ever be able to truly ride for Click & Clack.

  • Nothing is fuckin' with 'Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!' y'all.

    Get Familiar.

  • I love Car Talk. You don't even have to know anything about cars because in the end it's barely about cars, unless the caller has the exact same car as you with the exact same problem. Here's something I didn't realize about Car Talk until recently: the show isn't live and they aren't just taking random callers. The show's taped during the week, and if you call their phone number to ask a question you apparently get an answering service where you leave a message about your query. The producers screen these messages and then get in contact with the people they think would make good callers. Click and Clack themselves don't know what the questions are going to be but the producers pre-screen the callers and only put the ones they think will be interesting onto the show.

  • Nothing is fuckin' with 'Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!' y'all.

    Get Familiar.

Except, maybe, 'Whad'Ya Know?'. It's strange how similar those shows are.

That's not a bad way to go about it given what the volume of calls would be like otherwise.

Not to mention that one time the jazz combo on Whad'Ya Know featured none other than Clyde Stubblefield...

  • FWIW, the car talk dudes are MIT grads, not your neighborhood grease monkeys.

"Ray Magliozzi has a degree in general science from MIT, while Tom has an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from MIT and an MBA and DBA from the Boston University Graduate School of Management."
