Anyone know off hand if the new Bladerunner mega-dvd is gonna be full of revamped special effects and CGI and shit?

It is, however a new, third cut of the movie that icorporates some footage that was not on the two previous releases (but that is nonetheless from the original filming of the movie.
it's also been re-mastered or whatever; detail is supposed to be a lot better.

1982 THEATRICAL VERSION
This is the version that introduced U.S. movie-going audiences to a revolutionary film with a new and excitingly provocative vision of the near-future. It contains Deckard/Harrison Ford's character narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) "happy ending" escape scene.
1982 INTERNATIONAL VERSION
Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version.
1992 DIRECTOR'S CUT
The Director's Cut omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famously-controversial "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant.

This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. Also includes:

don't get it twisted, it's really just 'cleaned up'. I saw the final cut in the theater, and it just looked super clean without any of the dirt and crud that you sometimes get on older films.
SPOILER: and frankly, if you have seen the DVD directors cut, there isn't that much different from that version with the exception of a slightly different unicorn scene.
I really need to see the theatrical version again, because I haven't seen that one since it came out, and I've totally forgotten it in the light of the directors cut being more readily available.
I have the 4 disc version, and it's plenty.
I also recently acquired the inexplicably-left-off-the-dvd doc 'On the Edge of Blade Runner' made for UK TV a few years ago. I guess they left it off because the newly made 2+hr doc does cover pretty much all the same ground, but it seemed to have been made before all parties had actually forgiven each other (Harrison) and would still not discuss the experience. BR is one of the few great films that still might not be as interesting as the story behind it's actually getting made.
