Kahil is still amazing. He's got a solid jazz output with ethnic heritage and other projects. He's got a disc coming out with pharoah, right now is touring Europe (I think), and is creating an online community for creative people called A HREF="http://www.oohlive.com/">oohlive.
While he may not come to mind as particularly 'out', Randy Weston has been steadily doing adventurous music that is far more challenging than many peers his same age.
These records are the proof:
and live the man is powerful and engaging, I highly recommend catching him if you have opportunity.
I've got the "Three Gentlemen From Chicago" LP by The Ethnic Heritage Ensemble on Moers which I really really like. What else is recommended?
And hey, I see a cake up there. Happy birthday A*****w. May the coming year bring you many new $100 private wanky noodle jazz LPs
