went to pick up my burger yesterday in a joint across the street(owned by a member of the Box Tops) which usually has the most insipid, jehri-curl blues shit going on(place is called Hueys and our code word for shitty 80s blues in the shop is "Hueys Blues")...there was a BANGING version of Betty Everett's "You're no good" playing, I dont know who it was, it almost sounded earlier than the OG due to the raw assed recording...asked the dude if he knew what it was, but it was on satelitte radio and the little screen thingy that tells you what is playing was busted...
heard "you" by marvin gaye off his "in the groove" album in a clothes store in canada. it was followed by dyke and the blazers.
i used to play crazy shit at a gas station i woked at when i was younger. shit like spinna and bobbito stevie mixes, traveling through sampleland by dj shame and on track #5 by kon and amir. i was asked at least 10 times a day "what are you playing?"
Just recently, I was watching the premier of that new HBO show about the male escort. Credits song was 'Am I A Good Man', Them Two.

Hey,
I remember shopping with wifey at a Talbot's clothing store (in North Brunswick, NJ off U.S. Rt. 1) and they played a series of heaters over the radio. The highlights include:
-"Harlem Nocturne"-Chakachas. -"Soulful Strut"-Young-Holt Unlimited. -"Groovy Situation"-Gene Chandler. -"Rock Steady"-Aretha Franklin. -"She's Not Just Another Woman"-100 Proof Aged in Soul.
Those are all I could remember. Me and this Hispanic guy (we were both sitting in the "tired husbands section") were commenting on how cool the music was.
I was at a party supply store this weekend. You know the kind of place filled with suburban moms buying cheap gift bag items for their kid's birthday party. They were playing all kinds of heat, Dramatics, Talking Loud by JB and some deep soul stuff I didn't even know. I commented to the cashier, a lovely younger hipster type, that I was digging the sounds. She sneered and said, "This is muzak". I had to laugh.
Just heard a radio DJ in northern Nigeria KILL IT with the disco and boogie classics. Nothing very rare, but the last thing I'd expect to hear up here (mixed really well, no less). In the south, it wouldn't be so odd (I think), but sharia law rules in these parts. Nightclubs have been shut down (or torn down), dry province, very conservative society.
