Great album, undeniably, but as far as 90s r&b is concerned...

    What's The 411 >>>>>>>>>>>> everything else.

    Um.

    No.

I have a major soft spot for Crazy Sexy Cool but mainly as it's my girl's favourite album and has many good memories. Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes is a monstrous track though.

This is my most played 90s R&B album for sure.

Anyone ever get into this one:

It's not really my cup of tea, but, as an Organized Noize fan, I keep hanging on to it thinking I'll appreciate it more someday.

    Agreed. 411 changed the game.

Jodeci "Diary of a Mad Band" and Mary J "My Life"!

We can arguably break 90s R&B into 3 separate categories:
Post New Jack Swing (Tony! Toni! Tone!, Loose Ends, Jodeci)
Classic Hip-hop influenced R&B (Mary J, Intro etc...)
    Pre Neo-Soul (D'Angelo, Erykah.)

For the record there are GREAT albums in all of these categories but I would still have to probably ride for "My Life" and for "Voodoo" and "Sons Of Soul" as well.

As an aside, I'd like to say how cool it is to see US heads riding for "Look How Long". I know Loose Ends were popular in the States during the 80s, but this album didn't do that well in the UK. It dropped at the zenith of the whole rave explosion and was a little out of step with mainstream tastes of the time, which meant it got lost somewhat. Also, I always got the impression it was perceived as being more of a Carl McIntosh solo joint than a proper Loose Ends album, maybe because Steve Nichol and super-cute Jane Eugene were no longer on the firm. I wasn't aware at all that it created much interest in the US and while I don't agree that it's the best r&b album of the 90s (nothing, but nothing changed the game like "What's The 411"), it's still massively slept on by the majority.

  • I have to agree, Cosmo posted the correct answer.

I ride for the Loose Ends album as well.

And I will step up and say that I thoroughly enjoy the Society Of Soul LP.

    PROTO-KUFI!

I'm not knowin'. This is the same Loose Ends group who did "hanging on a string" right?

  • forever my lady is worlds better than that protoemothugcroonershittypress diary of a mad band. ok, im mostly mad at the pressing but seriously their first was it for me. not that i dont like diary, but forever my lady is super CLASSIC.

and not for nothen but groove theory's tell me is like the epitome of 90s r&b. has touches of almost everything, save new jack swing. neo soul, proto-r&b-raplips-heelgrab fakiecrossover. and the album wasnt bad either.
