Li hing mui dilemma (cracked seed-R)

My sister has been craving some li hing mui, so I went to the closest Asian store and looked to see what kind of cracked seed they had. Sure enough, there was a bag of li hing mui, so I bought one. Now, my sister likes her li hing mui after having it soaked in vinegar and a bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice.Anyway, my point behind the post was that I looked at the expiration date on the bag and it said "One Year". Not a specific date, just one year, and I had to laugh. One year from what? The moment I bought it? There's no manufacturing date. It's not like going into a regular cracked seed shop and getting li hing mui, lemon peel, or any other types fresh. One year? That would be great for milk. Milk expiration: two weeks.
