Dude knows way too much about way too much. I say we use this thread to ask him questions about random musicians. For some reason, I have a feeling he might know a lot about Eddie Rabbit[/b].Knowledge me!

    Dear Mr. Pickwick,

Were there any LP's released on the SGC label besides the three Nazz albums??

    Dear Pickwick,

Was it Bobby Lee Trammell's idea to bill himself
as "The American Beatle" on his Smash 45's, or was
    it done without his knowledge?

What is the harder pull on 45
Natures Time on CEM or The Intentions on Tiki??

Also, did the Ben Collier BBSS 'Walk Proud' 45 on Atlantic ever get a stock issue? All I've ever seen are white label promos, same song on both sides.

I can't answer that question right now (I need to check my 45 tonight), but I can add this piece of info:

It was originally released as Jay Jay Bailey's "Salute To Black Woman/ Walk Proud" on NC label Tina (#900)

Probably WAS his idea. How else was some old rockabilly cat supposed to get airplay during '64-'65?

(although it didnt work, did it? see ya on the country circuit, billy)

    Knowledge me!

Just some lame singer-songwriter who had a mess of country-crossover hits during the late seventies and early eighties, nothin' to worry about. Although I am a huge fan of "Suspicions," one of the few country records to cross over to black radio (something Lionel Richie couldn't do when he duetted with Alabama!). Also dig Elvis Presley's "Kentucky Rain," written by Eddie Rabbit when he was just a strugglin' unknown (who had a pic sleeve 45 on Date).

  • See? I knew you'd have more info than "His biggest hit was 'I Love A Rainy Night.'"

Hence, this thread. Note to future questioners in this thread: no Ray Stevens softballs!

[I don't know why Eddie Rabbit popped in my head the other day, but when he did, I also remembered a woman I used to work with when I was in college who had a HUGE crush on Eddie Rabbit. For some reason, that really weirded me out.]

none that i know of - i wouldnt be surprised if Screen Gems-Columbia created that as a Nazz vehicle, like they did with Colgems and the Monkees (although there were non-Monkee Colgems elpees)

wait a minute, just remembered: Organized by Con Funk Shun

(i forget whether theres a breakbeat on this album, but it is a reissue of some earlier stuff in the funk vein they did ca. '73, before they had any hits)

and i wont count kool & the gang or anything else on De-Lite (pickwick actually distributed de-lite for a minute there)

The Shaft LP is less funky IMO.

    the sample or the rap?

if its the sample, i dunno, but going by that bass pattern that sounds like some serious early Fatback Band business going on - reminded me of "goin' to see my baby" or some such

The rap please! I'd like to get a song title to help as a lead.

    Thanks

    You really wanna KNOW?

Joe's done some hellafied stuff over the years..."Psychedelic Baby," "Oh Yeah," "Push Push Push," "El Pito (I'll Never Go Back To Georgia," BUT...I gotta confess, my fave J.C. is the one that kicked it off, "Bang! Bang!" Matter of fact, that's the song that got me into Latin music in general. The Chambers Brothers had a live version on their Love, Peace & Happiness LP, but they can't touch Cuba.

Fave album? The only one I have is We Must Be Doing Something Right (apart from a handful of 45's, plus a few various-artists salsa comps that he's on), and that one is pretty cool. I bought this in the early nineties, before boogaloo stuff became big again (in collector circles), so naturally I figured I made out like a bandit.
