Oh shit.. I was at that show. That was their first date. Was such a wicked night. Most were there just because Wu Tang Clan was huge then. But it was one of those nights I've never forgotten.
Seeing such a rare print in a fucking porn theater sitting near QT & Mira... Was seriously
I can remember faxing back & fourth to Colin for hookups! I feel bad that someone lost one of the reels on Colin.
That was over 10 years ago... DAMNNNNN
You win.
i was selling some old hip hop records to a local store. i put them on the counter, had a look at the people at the store and noticed that one of the mcs from a record i tried to sell was going through the miami bass bin (!!!). the owner took the record and looked at the bands picture. looked at the guy - looked at the cover again. at that moment the guy came up to the counter because he wanted to pay for what he picked. the owner tried to hide the record immediately, so that the mc couldn't see it. the owner and me were freaking out. funny moment.
another weird situatuion:
i saw a very relaxed guy at a local flea market buying a lot of records. blues, jazz and rock. i followed him for a while, because i recognized his face from somewhere. i asked my girlfriend and she said she knew him too. he was a lot older than 50 - his girlfriend was not older than 25 (not his daughter!). he was dressed like a bum, and looked like he drank too much the night before. it was such a weird look. plus, he smelled funny. well, on our way home, it occured to me that he we've been to his lawyer's office the month before. he was almost overdressed, smelling of aftershave, looking good and all serious back then. but it was the same guy. we've seen him at that flea market again, but dressed in a suit. i wonder what happened on that particular weekend. must have been wild.
i've never sold a record to anyone famous, nor seen a celebrity buying records.
he is a regular customer @ jammyland
& i pretend to work in record stores on third street
when i'm in town lurking & lottering
Also sold tons of anime records to the dude who made the movie Silent Hill....
peace.
When I worked at Amoeba I rang up or was at the register next to the ringer upper of:
-Shandi from America's Next Top Model.
-Questlove
-The singer of the Hives
-Devendra Banhart. I had no idea who he was, nor do I know much about him now. He hand rolled a cigarette at the counter while I rang him up and he got tobacco all over the place. I was thinking "get the fuck out of here you fucking hippy, making a mess!" Then my co-worker was like "you know who that was?"
Add that to the fact that he was quoted as saying "Joanna Newsome is the most important musician alive." I like her, but that is the dumbest quote ever. For those two reasons I have no interest in ever hearing about him again.
-PB Wolf
-Karen O
I can't remember. All kinds of people would randomly come in there. The only ones I remember getting somewhat excited about were Shandi and the curiosity of seeing what Questlove was buying (oddly enough it was stuff like new reissues of Al Green Lps and Naughty's OPP). I think he was buying records to dj somewhere that night.
Owen Wilson strolled in and check out the clearance cd section. That's it. He looked through the bottom barrel clearance section for about 5 minutes and left.
Shit was foul. But I'd never laugh. You'd see this look in their eye like they'd seen some shit!!! Just be like stay up man, here's the bill, you can't pay it, I gotta shut the cable off now. Talk about burned in the memory.
