running into a pal this weekend made me sentimental for baby huey which i have not played in a while and we'd listen often after the bars closed. i've been listening to this on repeat a few times this afternooneverything is awesome about this song, but i love how the drums intensify and compliments his yells and fades back to quiet and basically is doing it's own thing at times. this song gives me goosebumpsi think memorable slow drumming is a special thing if the drums are ALIVE. yeah?

Im having trouble posting a youtube link right now there are a few

Portishead tracks that come to mind right of the top....

GloryBox, Cowboys, Wandering Stars ( but that may be getting into the 90 bpm category)

    I'll think of more.....

  • I really love the double-time thing that comes in towards the end of Jorge Ben's "Domingas". Ear candy

    -"You, Me Together"-Stanley Clarke.
    -"It's a Man's World"-James Brown.
-"Over the Rainbow" and "Ain't that Lovin' You"-The Ohio Players.
-"A Change is Gonna Come"-The Greatest Little Soul Band in the World ft/ J.J. Johnson.

I don't think any of these are as slow as Baby Huey, but here are some of my favorite low-tempo head-nodders.

Magictones- Good Old Music -- One of the toughest breaks of all time, IMO. I will post it if anyone is unfamiliar.

Bobby Cook- On the Way -- Diplo used these on that 8-bit Trick Daddy Remix from years back.

Giant- Queen of Downs -- Definitely one of the ultimate, "DAMN! I didn't see that coming!" breaks.

Junior Bennett- Catfish Gumbo -- KILLER!

Talking about drums is a good look for this forum.

You probably mentioned it just for the break but that song is fucking awesome. Credence gold.

Is it just me or does this photo make that record look gigantic.

I was thinking the same thing. Nosdam brings the slow drum heat, but I think I know how the strut can hat that, so I will go no further.
