    Lee Austin - Screwdriver

sounds like at the 1:36 point the person noticed the pitch was not at zero and made an adjustment.

i was surprised that was on the original. edan really makes the most of everything in the song, at that point in the rap he says "speed it up a little faster"

heres my question...do you think this track was original just a backing for a vocal number? the "yesss"s and so-forth dont really make much sense alone. i always figured edan added those, surprising to hear they were in the original song too. perhaps released under another artist name? ive heard a few funk 45s that were just backing tracks under completely different names/artists...perhaps this was the situation here?

or maybe they just took the main vocal track out for no reason?

this 45 seems pretty mysterious to me.

Well, the flip of the 45 is a really excellent vocal funk cut ("Put Something On your Mind"), so I'm presuming 'Screwdriver' was just a fill-in B-side.

As for your other intuitions, you're pretty much spot on. The 'Screwdriver' instrumental is almost identical to the backing track for Clarence Reid's "Miss Hot Stuff"on Alston. Not surprisingly, Reid is also credited with producing the "Screwdriver" 45 on International Brothers. Good stuff.
