    huh.

Here I thought she stole the BEAT from Tony Basil.

    P.S. Who cares?

b/w I'm embarrassed I even know what it sounds like.

This is funny - real "where there's a hit, there's a writ" stuff.

I work for a music publisher, and I had to commission a musicologist report on alleged similarities between this song and Toni Basil's "Mickey" just a few months ago. The broad conclusions of this report were that, while both songs shared similar musical elements, these elements were in themselves quite commonplace, and could be found in any number of songs. They certainly weren't considered significant enough to warrant legal action.

The similarity to the Rubinoos song is a little more apparent, but I don't see them winning this one.

I wasn't sayin she should sue them, I was just alluding to the fact that they were allegedly similar.

still cant help that it reminded me of it when heard it though.

Sorry if I didn't express that too well - I was just repeating the conclusion of the musicologist. You're by no means alone in thinking they were similar. It was one of the writers of the Toni Basil song who asked us to commission the report in the first place.

    tee heeehe....

Yeah, No I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought that.

And Im glad they look into it when things hit close too.

there is so little quality control these days, at least someone is trying.

there was something similar a few years back with a madonna track, holiday I think, jessica somebidy.

I still think they ( the popettes_ of today ) are bitin' though.

if it ain't broke don't fix it right?

  • This story is on the heels of news reported yesterday that Chantal Kreviazuk wrote a song for Avril Lavinge who took the song's title and perhaps more.

    Its not like its Dylan.

"He was a boy, she was a girl
Can I make it anymore obvious?

He was a punk, she did ballet
    What more can I say?

He wanted her, she'd never tell
secretly she wanted him as well.

But all of her friends stuck up there nose
they had a problem with his baggy clothes.

He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy
he wasn't good enought for her
She had a pritty face, but her head was up in space
she needed to come back down to earth."

Personally, I would want to distance myself from this kind of shit except to pick up my paycheck.

I kind of want your job, P. Sure, I'd probably have a different opinion if I actually did have your job, but from the outside looking in, it seems like a much more interesting career path than my own.
