im not deep in the bollywood game but, i think an unsaid rule to heat, is if there are guns on the cover it might not be undisapointing.

  • the shalimar is def a fan fav! gotta have the 45 for the short dj ready version...

JP exactly how many shots do you have to get to protect you these days before traveling into India???

  • Jonny_PaycheckJonny_Paycheck 17,825 Posts
Yeah it's always nice to get Shalimar. Although to be honest I'm more excited about the ones I haven't found before.

I think wifey only got one shot. I'll probably go with next time so I promise to give a detailed account.

Yes agreed, i rarely find any bollywood here, but i did manage to pick up this DON from the guy who owns the bodega next to my work. He only wanted some free plastic from our shop and that was no problem at all! These are the only three i own that i'd consider bollywood heat, the theme on prof pyarelal is volcanic

is your shalimar the gatefold copy that opens in the middle?

The last couple copies I've had were the gatefold; this one isn't, but I can't be sure if it's just been taped up from pieces of the original cover... the covers are almost all somewhat "reconstructed"... Dacait, Gumnaam, and Commander are all in relatively good shape though. The records looked pretty bad on first blush but they're cleaning up nicely.

I've had Don before, that's a tight one. I hoped (and asked) for a copy of "Bombay 405 Miles" but did not get it.

Saturday flea finds. I think you need to be a real optimist to go diggin in NYC. Or open minded, ie: went hoping to find a few soul and funk 45 gems, came back with a boxful of 80s LPs. World Noodle up the wazoo.

Highlight was being accompanied round one dealer's tables by a shirtless Doo-Wop collectro picking out choice beaten jazz records and exclaiming stuff like "Bix Beiderbecke - now who in the world has heard of him!" and "Here's some Blue Notes... Tyner McCoy.... McCoy Tyner, know him?" I told him I was looking for disco records to DJ and he informed me that I could take pretty much any (Phase 4 etc) record and pitch it up 30% and it becomes really danceable

a couple of these are even great. Lots of Afro-Latin and Jazz-Fusion, including a Rasta Spiritual Free Fusion LP from Atlanta (Azanyah). Our Daddy is probably the best cover pic (Selassie Related). The Okay Temiz crazy.

Got a few other cool LPs without sleeves, like Leon Ware - Inside is Love and the US Naval Academy doing a cover of Kool & the Gang.

  • I hoped (and asked) for a copy of "Bombay 405 Miles" but did not get it.

All we can do is hope, the RAFOO CHAKKAR is currently on ebay from groovyrecord, he always has some nice bollywood.. but at $30 and no bids. She did well for you with those that is for sure.

Bollywood is a tuff i'd like to get involved more with that style.

Your lady has a good eye, those are all really good except the Deewaar which is dialogue and sparse music, not the "good" rendition of the Deewaar soundtrack. The good version is super hard to find because people considered it "amusical" when Burman composed it. There is actually 3 versions of that record, dialogue, dialogue and some ok tunes, and all musical w/the good tunes.

Sportcasual, that Mahotella Queens is nice.

you gotta get a lady... train her for a couple years on values, condition, and what to buy/look for... then let her do her thing and watch your collection grow.

ive trained two so far... you can do it too.

    Gripp and flipp or keeper?
I'd have a hard time holding onto a 4 figure record even if it was the shit.

I just gave her a list... she passed it to one of her hosts... they got the records... she delivered them to me... she doesn't have an eye so much as she knows how to handle business for her dude... lol

Yeah I wanted the *good* Deewaar... didn't know there were different versions haha.

Sportcasual, that Mahotella Queens is nice.

I thought it was the most
of all the African records I got.

Can you sell it for me?

^^ pulled some gospel out of a huge collection which was mostly group chorales and
sermons, but there was some good 'rock/soul band' type stuff too..

^^ lamanite generation is sort of a native american Osmonds thing, semi cheesy, semi
    cool in places.

^^ dude, its new england witch metal! joey's solo LP, not easy to locate. the fuzz
dance EP has some cool '85 electro/electronic type jams on it. lol E.T. cheese. also
lol at sesame street jungle. the Air record is nice, despite monkey ass cover.

^^ just some great old soul and jazz, and a nice gospel comp lower right.

    ^^ folkways oddities, etc..

^^ the Takoma comp rips it up. Diga is a percussion jam thing, some sort of Grateful
Dead related, but plenty of drumming throughout. top center and top left are
strange but i havent really checked em out yet. Imagination male makeup moder jams.

^^ 7" treats - 2 Bauhaus rarities, equally htf 'transmission' 7 by Joy Division, and
a cool little batman pic disc.

    45s...good tunes...

oh and i 'found' this in my racks, i remember a while back people were talking about
herb albert whipped cream cover spin offs, and no one mentioned this (frightening) one....

It's a gripp and flipp, though the thought of keeping it has occured to me. I will see how I feel when tuition for the last year of my masters is due in September. What is hard is knowing I will never find something like this again in my life, so I am trying to cherish the moment.

Went to a newish local record store that
is actually in the seller's living room,
    with cash register and all.

Most of these came from there:

I really like the RCA/Weldon Irvine-era Nina stuff...
    Heavy Metal Kids SHREDS.

Jammy is UK Trojan OG. Deep. Michaelangelo is an odd
record, lots of autoharp mixed with electric guitar,
a few spacey instros and although a few songs are awful,
there are a couple of amazing dreamy psych jams.
    Electric Banana SHREDS.

    THE_GRIPP:

Sealed vintage US yellow label presses. Fantastic album.
I'll be moving a couple of the extras on the set sale tip.

Came up on a collection of offbeat Motown 45's, including
a few of the raer variety:

Babs McNair is bait for that Norman and the 3rd copy I've found lately.
WLP of the very first Temps 45.
Can I get a Price Czech[/b] on this from anyone?
Their second (and only other) 45 on Miracle is
around, seems to be offered and sold in the $100
range, but I can't find evidence of ANY sale of
this one, which has to be rarer. I don't even want
to sell it, but I can't help but wonder if it's a
    BIG $$$ item or not.

    Wouldn't normally floss a re-issue, but I can't resist:

And, honestly, I was stoked to get this, because I
never knew until I played it that there was a vocal
cut to "Flight to Cuba" which I knew from a comp and
has long been an absolute favorite funk jam of mine.
