Font Gurus: What are your thoughts on Impact?

Is there a context in which this font still works, or is it on some "onlyused it in h.s./college" type steez? Does this only work for mid-90's Jazz Funk Beatz comps?I have to admit, this is still my default font when I am strapped for ideas.

    That was actually my first thought. I used to use Impact on politically oriented flyers in the college days ... haven't used it since. Perhaps I just can't divorce the font from that context.

    I hate IMPACT! You might as well use Comic Sans.

    It still has uses, although I would use it sparingly. I generally only use it in all caps at large point sizes with careful attention to kerning.

    Use is only acceptable when beveled (at least 5px) and with a drop shadow. Lens flare on top of beveled drop shadowed text optional.

    Does the same criteria hold up for:

    Impact is awful. Use Helvetica Bold Condensed or Trade Gothic Bold Condensed instead.

    I would still only use it if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
    and also a cosine on Helvetica Nueu.
