I heard there was a wolfgang dauner ECM but I've never seen it, anyone know the deal?
Yeah, it's called "Output" it's pretty experimental...I've never come across a tangible copy, but I do have the digital soundwaves...If you haven't peeped Robin Kenyatta's "Girl From Martinique" I highly suggest you do, Wolfgang rips for eons.
There's an Enrico Rava that's got some decent material.
maybe "the plot" w/ abercrombie, christensen, and holland? he also has a dope album on the ECM subsidiary label, Japo called Quotation Marks that came out in 73'
A lot of people hate ECM and even though they did put out a lot of stuff I don't care for at all, there are a handful that I really like and listen to often. A few faves off the top (including some JAPOs):
Wolfgang Dauner - "Outputs" Eberhard Weber - "Colors Of Chloe" & "Yellow Fields" Robin Kenyatta - "Girl From Martinique" John Abercrombie - "Timeless" Mal Waldron - "The Call" Return To Forever - S/T Lennart ??berg - "Partial Solar Eclipse" Julian Priester - "Love, Love" Terje Rypdal - S/T, "What comes after", "Whenever I seem to be far away" & "Odyssey" OM - "Kirikuki", "Rautionaha" & "w/Dom Um Romao"
ECM and JAPO are sisterlabels and they are both German. From discogs.com:
In 1967, Manfred Scheffner started a mailorder business for jazz LPs which he named "jazz by post" (JAPO) at Elektro-Egger, an electric appliances store in Munich-Pasing, Germany. In 1969 a record store was added that by the end of the 70's had become the leading jazz record shop in Germany. In addition to selling records, JAPO acted as a jazz label. JAPO LPs were produced by Thomas St??wsand, Steve Lake, Manfred Eicher (of ECM Records) or by the artists themselves and published in the ECM-Verlag. The JAPO mailorder and record store went out of business in 1989 when Manfred Scheffner changed to the clothing department store "Beck" (located at Marienplatz in Munich), where he built up a jazz department ("jazz is beck") which today is among the biggest jazz CD stores in Germany. The JAPO label with its back catalog was taken over by ECM Records.
Polydor licensed selected titles for US release, but OG ECMs are German.
Forgot about that Jarrett/DeJohnette. I like that one too. A rare instance of Jarrett playing electric piano outside of Miles' band, wahwah-ringmod and all that.

Otherwise I hate ECM!!! Yes, I HATE it!
however, I really like the Julian Priester and the Steve Reich. The Wolfgang Dauner joint is nice as well.
I also like Michael Naura "Vanessa", Eberhard Weber "colours of chloe" and Dave Liebman "Drum Suite"
There are tons of tepid stuff, but ECM records are easy to find and cheap.
Is JAPO the European subsidiary of ECM?
can't beleive that steve tibbets lp was posted[bye bye safe journey]
