no doubt.
it was also sorta ill.
enjoyed it myself. i dug the hornet flinging!
like the opposite of a chick flick?
I wouldn't say that at all.
in other news i saw knocked up and i loved it!
But I thought the best part was being able to see how an Mayan city looked in tact....sacrifices, costumes and all. That was made the whole movie worth while.
yeah that was cool....but historically way off right?
I mean, it looked like the height of the Mayan civilization, i.e. "ancient times," and then.....

...the Spanish show up?
I was like, "wait a minute?!?"
Weren't the great Mayan cities already in ruins when the conquistadores showed up?

as a devout "Catholic," Gibson has an interest in painting the Mayan culture as totally doomed before his boys show up right?
the conventional wisdom is that when the conquistadores/missionaries show up that that's the beginning of the end for the continent's natives.
but Mel flips it by having his boys show up at the end of the movie, i.e. after we've just watched for two hours how violent and fucked up Mayan culture already is.
so he absolves the Church of any real responsibility for the genocide of the native Americans.
he's an asshole; about that there's no doubt.
but Jaguar Paw getting pursued through the jungle for the last quarter of the movie is one of the illest chase scenes I've ever seen.
