DES MOINES, Iowa -- Bo Diddley is in intensive care after suffering a stroke in western Iowa, a publicist said Wednesday. The 78-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was listed in guarded condition at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., said Susan Clary, a publicist for the musician's management team.Diddley, who has a history of hypertension and diabetes, was hospitalized Sunday following a concert in Council Bluffs in which he acted disoriented, she said.Tests indicated that the stroke affected the left side of his brain, impairing his speech and speech recognition, Clary said.Clary said she has no other details on Diddley's condition or how long he would be in intensive care.Diddley, with his black glasses and low-slung guitar, has been an icon in the music industry since he topped the R&B charts with "Bo Diddley" in 1955. His other hits include "Who Do You Love," "Before You Accuse Me," "Mona" and "I'm a Man."Diddley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and was given a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1998.

Let's hope he pulls through!!!!!! Major legend that doesn't need to go yet. He started so many trends. The Bo Diddley beat was huge. His killer style, unusual guitars, a custom vespa in the 50's!!! Songs that were just him and his man snapping eachother.

I saw him a few years ago in Seattle. Mudhoney opened for him so it was killer!!!

He had his arm all bandaged up because he'd had a fire in his house. Most modern punks would have cancelled the tour for months while they healed. Bo just wrapped the things up and kept on touring.

He told the story about how he had some people over jamming and some one knocked over a candle and started a curtian on fire. Everyone ran out of the house. Bo said "I didn't run cuz I knew I had a million dollar studio in this house. I looked at that fire and said you ain't gonna burn my shit down." He grabbed the curtian to put it out, but it had some plastic material that stuck to his arm and burn him pretty good. One bad ass dude!

Bo Diddley's condition improves after stroke

OMAHA, Neb. ??? Four days after suffering a stroke, Bo Diddley walked around the intensive-care unit at Creighton University Medical Center, and doctors were encouraged that the singer-song writer-guitarist would be able to perform again, his manager said.

The 78-year-old Diddley told his audience that he wasn't feeling well during a show in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Saturday night. Diddley's manager, Margo Lewis, said she had the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer taken to the hospital by ambulance when he appeared disoriented at the Omaha airport on Sunday.

Though Diddley's speech is impaired, he's made significant progress.

"We're going to get a guitar for him and put it in his lap and let him entertain people here," Lewis said from the hospital. "People think that would be good therapy for him."

Diddley, with his black glasses and low-slung guitar, has been an icon in the music industry since he topped the R&B charts with "Bo Diddley" in 1955. His other hits include "Who Do You Love," "Before You Accuse Me," "Mona" and "I'm a Man."

Diddley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and was given a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1998.

Lewis said it's uncertain how long Diddley, who has a history of hypertension and diabetes, will be hospitalized in Omaha.

He played two Saturday night shows at Harrah's Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs. He planned to fly home to Archer, Fla., before starting a monthlong tour of the Midwest and United Kingdom on May 20 in Dallas.

Those shows are canceled, Lewis said, but she believes Diddley will sing again, even though he'll require speech therapy first.

"Singing a song is different than speaking," she said. "Even when there is a problem with speaking, or hesitancy, we've seen where people can sing perfectly."

I walk 47 miles of barbed wire,
    I use a cobra-snake for a necktie,
I got a brand new house on the roadside,
    Made from rattlesnake hide,
I got a brand new chimney made on top,
Made out of a human skull,
Now come on take a walk with me, Arlene,
And tell me, who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
Tombstone hand and a graveyard mine,
    Just 22 and I don't mind dying.[/b]
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
I rode around the town, use a rattlesnake whip,
Take it easy Arlene, don't give me no lip,
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
Night was dark, but the sky was blue,
Down the alley, the ice-wagon flew,
Heard a bump, and somebody screamed,
You should have heard just what I seen.
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
Arlene took me by my hand,
And she said ooowee Bo, you know I understand.
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?
    Who do you love?

That Just 22 was the first thing that popped into my head this morning.

The first lp with Jerome playing maracas is so great. Time's whole rutine was taken from that. I had some 80s Bo record with a punk band backing him that was killer. Don't forget his movie roles, Trading Places and ... Mystery Train (?).

    Get well soon.

I've seen Bo perform 3 times first in the early 70's and as recent as the early 90's.

I was standing on line waiting to get his autograph when a fan presented him with an LP to sign....he turned to his "manager", asked "Did we get paid for this one" and when told no he broke the LP over his knee, signed the cover and handed it back with a big smile on his face.

You do not fuck with Mr. Diddley.

His music is one of the foundation blocks of everything that's come since.

A drummer who once played with Bo tells a story of how he was showing off his stick chops when he was told.....

"I don't need you to play any of the Gene Krupa stuff. boy"

    Get Well Bo!!

I will be playing this tonight in allegiance. So good and dirty sounding - the cover is not a very good representation of the record!

I just got back from a five-day rockabilly festival in Green Bay, WI, where he was supposed to perform but didn't. This very stroke was the reason why. I've seen the man several times, but even so, I was still hoping for one more shot. Get well, Bo...
