scanning in halves is a total bitch. best way is to take a large, clear picture and tweak it square in photoshop.

I'm not sure how important it is to you,
but if it's something serious enough to
drop a few bucks, I used these for 5 years
at the record store I worked for:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320114461052

you lose like 1/4" on 2 sides because it's not quite 12"
across, but the next closest scanner that has these kind
of dimensions is over $800. They work pretty well, although
the first one I had was replaced after around a year, the second
one lasted for over 3 and was still going when I left the job.

im putting together a book with pretty much 0 budget,
so i was hoping to spend nothing.
but i guess $200 isnt the end of the world.
i'll also give the first option a try as well.
    thanks.

I have the Mustek scanner SOI posted above.
Works alright, scanning quality isn't too great but it's workable in Photoshop, plus anything else that size and up is crazy pricey.
Another option, PS has a good photostitch script if you don't mid scanning every LP cover twice.

Best option is to just photograph them with a digital camera. If you are really serious invest in some photo lights.
