Massive late pass, I watched this documentary last night. Really great live performance footage and interviews. The studio stuff with Teo was really cool. Can anyone recommend other documentaries like this? Meaning live footage and interviews.

whoaaaa dope, thanks, definitely hookin' this when i get home tonight. not sure if this is the one i have on tape or not but i need it digi anyway.
also, Mingus' autobiography "Beneath the Underdog" is a great read.
Speaking of which, when is Robin DG Kelley's Monk biography coming out. It's been in the works for years.
Great doc. I had a pretty late pass myself for it, saw it a couple summers back.
I haven't seen it in a while, but that guy was pretty condescending. Monk was slowly making his way into the studio a little dazed (tired, drunk, not feeling it, whatever) and that guy was making fun of his shoulder movements, saying under his breath, "huh...huh...*cheesy laugh*...a little heroin? Eh?"
last i spoke to him the manuscript was close to finished (he as my advisor back in the day) but robin never puts anything out that's not completely thorough so it might be a minute by the time he finishes it and gets through the editing process.
actually, the "triumph" doc only has snippets of the footage described above...there is actually a documentary made in the 60s that the "messy house" footage is from, its called, I think, Mingus:66.
