I love this album. So I was having a conversation with Dante Ross yesterday, and then afterwards I got hit up out of the blue by DJ Alamo (no name dropping, just saying...) so I broke this VINYL out and listened to this shit all teh way through, and was floored again, what, 15 years after the fact?Burned this shit and drove around New York listening to this. LET'S TALK ABOUT RAP MUSIC>>>>

Is Alamo still "good to go?"

I must say when this came out I wasn't feeling it as much as I do now. I was really more on some put your tims on hip hop then. I had to get floored by Punk Jump Up to come back to All for One and say

it's a great album! only one song on there i didn't dig. this was during that era when everyone had their street cut, radio cut, house cut, reggae cut and all kinds of different styles on one album. miss those days...

    TOO BLACK

    TOO STRONG (for Soulstrut)

    This used to get fools H Y P E!

I need to hear that album again.
Did Dante talk about any of the SD50's stuff he did with them? I know dude's got stories for days.

I was just being stupid Cos, but I do need that one on CD. Switching my collection from tape to CD has been a long and winding road.
Isn't the Shoutouts track on there is the same as the beat to "Don't Curse" right? Was that on purpose?

Hell yes. Lately I have been bumping the Stretch and Bobbito shows alot. The Big L show is bananas.

Yes - this is my shit!

The song that samples "Popcorn With a Feelin" was
my drinking sing-a-long jam BITD ... picked up the
2LP repress a couple years back and discovered it all
over again ... in fact I just grabbed the "Slow Down"
    12" last weekend - "you're livin' foul."

PS but no love for "You Tried to Do Me"

This has been on my ipod since I bought it. One of the best hip-hop ALBUMS ever.

On the real tip let's take a field trip from the ghetto
You pick the time and we'll meet in the meadow
to discuss racial issues and tension
New York's a powder keg did I forge to mention?
Now case in point y'all remember that Brooklyn Bridge joint
when things got wild and woolly?
Yeah that day the FEDS played the role of the bully.

Definitely a Top Ten record. I've had "To The Right" stuck in my head all afternoon. And I wish rappers still made fast records like "Dance To My Ministry", love that EWF loop there.

And NO LOVE for "Tried To Do Me", left that shit off my iPod...

I love the first two albums, with One For All being a little bit more solid in my opinion. I am a big Grand Puba fan.

Anybody remember Ocean Howell's video part that had All For One in it? That had a huge impact on me as far as music and skateboarding. I can't remember what video it was, but his part was incredible. Kickflip front-side nose slides. Sorry, that is off topic.

So many quotables on those first two albums.

    "head crack head crack"

Tom Breihan is writing a piece on this album for this anthology

One of my favorite records for sure. Definitely had no idea about Roy Ayers when I heard "wake up" for the first time so it was revelatory in more ways than one.

I use to love Slow Down. But since I'm a geezer now. I just pop Brickell on and have the New Bohemians ride.

i am still amazed that i was not feelin' brand nubian when i first caught wind of them. their rap style was really pretty revolutionary when they 1st dropped... took me a second to get used to them. i am ALSO amazed that i could not distinguish one of them from the other. once i heard the song "all for one" i was sold, though
