well, really its just dres butawhile back i made a reference to how i'm really feeling this album and odub gave me a 'wtf' response but no seriously folks - this is good album! Mature grown man rap. But he comes across as so much more likeable to me than like, that last Masta Ace album - aside from the absence of corny skits/concepts (exception is the intro - which is actually a REALLY GOOD joke about dres doing a pop song, because its so on point that it could actually be a legit southern rap track, weird al levels of imitation) dres doesn't sound bitter, really - he sounds old, i guess, but reasonable, accepting, rather than U MAD DOGGIE which is how i thought Ace sounded on his last two albums (i like both of those alright, but i think this is better). Is there a song as good as "Sunshine" out right now from dudes whose heyday was 15 years ago?

i'm really wishing i'd caught dude when he was at the congress a couple months ago!

If no one's interested in talking about this i'm also interested in the consensus on non fiction, which i understand was a disappointment to lots of heads when it was released but sounds pretty good to me now, albeit not nearly as solid as the debut

Yeah i wasn't feelin non fiction when it dropped. But looking back on it now it really wasn't a bad album at all. Still sounds a lot better than most of the stuff released now days. I've only heard a few tracks off the new one so i can't really comment on that.

  • The new album by Mr. Long (well, new as of a few months ago) is very good.

I wasn't aware this existed! Will have to track it down.

As for the new Black Sheep, I'll check it out eventually but the absence of Mr Lawnge did dampen my interest.

Non-Fiction is a decent album, didn't really enjoy it at the time of release mainly due to the change of style in production but with hindsight it's a good follow up to Wolf.

  • I have been enjoying 'B-Boy Theme' for a while now, killer track. Haven't picked up the LP yet, doesn't look like its been released over here (UK). I KNOW this is dull question, but is it on vinyl anywhere?

It's because it didn't sound like or come close to A Wolf In Sheeps...and took everyone by surprise, there are some great tracks on that album especially "Autobiography"...the new (ish) Black Sheep album is worth checking, "Grew Up","Who Dat", "Sunshine", "Shorty" and B Boys Theme are great tracks and I agree with the comment that it is mature rap music.

Hmm from those samples this sounds a good deal better than I might have expected from Lawnge (never Long) after all these years. Cheers for the links, will be picking up a copy of this album shortly.

Cheers for this crossings. Was a good supporter of hip hop and ordered the album but this will pass the time while waiting for delivery nicely - looking forward to hearing it.

In other news, heard the Black Sheep album and, while it lost my interest somewhat towards the end, I will coasine and say this is a fine solo effort by Dres - deserves a lot more attention than it received.
