Holy Cock Holes this is the most boring shit to ever be posted here. But... Gimme advice. Anything. My Resume is 3+ years old. What are the trends. I hear now the in thing is to keep it as breif as possible; like all bullet points. So you list your professional experience but do you put a semi-lengthy description of duties after each one?Really any tips are welcome.Graphic designers feel free to email yours (but make sure the PDF is editable so I can just sub out your name and contact for mine).Tnaks! hc

I've been looking for about a month and a half. I feel as though I still don't know as much as I should about the process, but here is what I have gleaned.

Cater your resume to the position and use interesting pitches and presentations to get noticed.

There is a big difference between a CV, resume for perm work, and resume for freelance work. CV has my academic work highlighted (such as it is), freelance has just the skills highlighted (Flash, PHP, etc.) with professional experience first, and perm has a brief statement of purpose and is kind of a mix of CV and freelance.

Each professional entry is concise, taking maybe 4 lines. Clearly state position, time worked, duties, and any outstanding recognition you received or projects you worked on.

Freelance recruiters are looking for a ridiculous amount of RECENT freelance experience. I mean I had an entry on my resume that said "freelance multimedia development" with a description, and after a few passes I broke that down into individual projects. It added literally 3 paragraphs but I got a much better response.

The more concise, informative entries, the better. I've always heard over 2 pages is too much, but nowadays I'd send them a few pages. Nay, a bible. With portfolio screen shots. On glossy paper. Fluff that puppy up with eye candy. Because unless you wow them and they immediately see where they can place you in a job almost immediately you will be put in the way back of their file.

Speaking of which, one annoying side of the job hunt is recruiters will boil your resume down to a set of numbers. For instance, I am probably in their database as "project manager 1 year, PHP/HTML 4 years, Flash/Director 3 years" or some such, despite the fact there's more to me than that. The more quickly they can boil you down to a marketable commodity the better.
