Going for a bachelor party in May. I know about the weed and the tittie bars but any ideas for clubs ? bars? good music? records? is there like a "hip" part of town?

most definitely get yourself some sushi. go for an all you can eat deal at shabusen on burrard for 21 bucks for dinner or if you get hungry late night (10:30-12:00) you can get a wicked all u can eat sushi meal at Tanpopo on Denman street, which is the last street before english bay.
check out the afore mentioned beat street: good guys run it, fair prices, but fairly picked over. on davie st. check out todd at otis records: he frequently has gems that can be wildly underpriced.
go down to fourth st in kitsilano and walk around those parts a bit. there is a record store called zulu that everybody sweats but has very little in the way of rare stuff. more importantly, accross the street is sophie's cosmic cafe. it has a huge fork outside. that is the place to get a wicked breakfast all day.
if you want to go on a pretty mental digging adventure, there is a dude named brian who has a gigantic wharehouse full of records on the east side but he is slightly mental and its only a place to go if you have about 2-3 hours to spend. he also has lots of mags, posters, and related crap.
if you have a chance to go skiing, check out cypress. if you have a car its accesible and not too expensive.
granville island is the place to go with your girl. real artsy fartsy stores becasue it is incorporated into the emily carr art school campus. great food there. beware, if you go down on the rocks near the water you will see many rats
have fun and stay out of cracktown, its pretty ugly.
Vancouver fell off. Me and Dee Rock used to see some funny ass shit there in the 90's. RIP Ty, he really had the hot fiya.. Sipreano probably has some good records at the crib still. Avi's store used to be dope too.

i always thought the bars and clubs in vancouver kind of stank but if you feel the need to check out some spots:
the cambie-atached to a hostel-very friendly
irish heather-best pints in town and really really good irish fare
lucy mae brown;-pretty decent atmnosphere
subeez- a staple

If you feel like strapping on your balls (it ain't as bad as it looks!maybe not so cool with the lady friends though) That's my hood and there's a Saturday night called "Go Dumb" that is serious low-brow good-times!
Go down Granville St./Davies area and hit up the Persian Smoke House (can't remember the exact name) then hit up Fritz's fries up Davies for that drunk pooootine!
Hit up Robson street for shopping with the lady friend too.

def go to beatstreet. they can hip you to whatever type of club/bar/party you would want to check.
fuck shabusan or any of the all-you-can-eat "japanese" joints. they all blow.
stick to shiro on cambie (at 15th), toshi's on 16th (at main) or tojo's (w. broadway) if you got loot...
if you want records, you gotta hit the burbs. apollo records in coquitlam and krazy bob's in langley. there's also vinyl records on hastings (block away from beatstreet), but owner david just bounced a $200 cheque on me so bring cash for him...
otherwise, just enjoy the scenery. def co-sign on the irish heather in gastown, go dumb!!! (rhek, b-movies, the stunt man and co...) + royal unicorn nightclub in chinatown (paul/erik devro), commercial drive for dollar slice pizza at 4-brothers (by grant street) and ill italian sanwiches at la grotta (+ toppest coffee at continental)...
high-end shopping w/ brand names go to robson...
hippie/italian/west coast shit go to commercial drive...
yuppie shit go to kitsilano...
chinese shit go to richmond...
nature go to stanley park and ocean...
ghetto shit go to east hastings (at main)...
trendy shit go up main street (from kingsway/broadway up to 40th)...
lots to do and see... pick up the free papers for more info (the georgia straight/only/westender...)...

i'm trying to book a room and i want to make sure it's in walking didtance to the "action".
Any recommends? where do i avoid at all costs?
I'd recommend the Opus in Yaletown, stayed there a couple times, great spot,
great location. It's on the pricey side but worth it IMO.

Downtown is filled with cheap
hotels so if you are on a budget you can get a room pretty cheap.
