I know next to nothing about this whole girl group genre, but the records I've been purchasing lately slay me like nothing else. Please to put me d with the knowledge. Bonus points for anyone who does the math on Phil Spector productions regardless of the group or solo status or gender of the artist. Superpoaster please don't post in this thread...

Shirelles
Man, this is so good--one of the best reissue/comps I've ever picked up... although the packaging is one giant PAUSE (each CD comes inside a mock compact):
The Angels
etc.
The Cookies
The Bobbettes
That's a strong man that can walk into a shop and buy that right there.
Scorsese killed it w/ the girl group shit in Goodfellas. Fucking "Remember (Walkin in the Sand)" while they're digging up Billy Batts....
Scorsese is the king of that shit. I can't listen to "Love Is Strange" wthout seeing DeNiro in a pink suit
Yeah, a stronger man than me--I ordered it from Amazon.
i've been meaning to get this. thanks for reminding me.
the 45 can be hard to find, but the same track is on Lori Burton[/b]'s
LP Breakout on Mercury:
Also, I can't find a photo, but The Goodies[/b] are a US girl group in
the classic style who have a late-60's LP on Stax-subsidiary HIP, and
a minor hit with "Condition Red" that can be easily found on 45.
From the UK, Goldie & the Gingerbreads[/b] are quite good and pretty
slept-on, and then there are the Flirtations[/b], who pretty much kill it every time:
i was gonna make a post on "songs that start out the same" and because those songs rhythmically sound the same, but i guess he was smart and playing w/ the subconscious that he knew he had a hit with one song and could make the other one a hit starting off the same?
nonetheless, old girl groups are one of my fav genres.
LOVE THIS FOOTAGE of the ronettes, they are so godamn hot
It's centered around groups who were signed by Warner Bros. and a small handful of subsidiary labels (such as Loma). Some of it sounds like what they're supposed to be, Warner Bros.' answer to what was popular, but you'll also find some music on there that holds up very well. In fact all of it holds up well.
If you do an eBay search in CD's for "Girl Groups", you'll find quite a bit of titles from the US and UK.
Yes!
Dr.B. - you might want to check for Funky16Corners 'SOS - Heart in Distress' mix of girls groups/female soul as well - I think you can DL it from his site.
Also the Velvelettes.
I really want to grab that mix, but I can't figure out where the download link is. Can anyone put me on?
co-grip
Great song. Also check out the version by The Crystals, which I believe came first.

Chains
My baby's got me locked up in chains
And they ain't the kind that you can see
Whoa-oa, these chains of love got a hold on me
Yeah
Chains
Well, I can't break away from these chains
I can't run around 'cause I'm not free
Whoa-oa, these chains of love won't let me be
Yeah
Now, believe me when I tell you
I think you're fine
I'd like to love you
But, darling, I'm imprisoned by these
Chains
My baby's got me locked up in chains
And they ain't the kind that you can see
Whoa-oa, these chains of love got a hold on me
Yeah
I wanna tell you, pretty baby,
Your lips look sweet
I'd like to kiss them
But I can't break away from all of these
Chains
My baby's got me locked up in chains
And they ain't the kind that you can see
Whoa-oa, these chains of love got a hold on me
Yeah
Chains
Chains of love
