    For starters:

    Muddy Waters-The Chess Box

    Bo Diddley-The Chess Box

    Willie Dixon-The Chess Box

    Howlin' Wolf-The Chess Box



    In fact, there are loads of compilations from those who were on Chess, from one LP/CD comps to full blown box sets that are highly comprehensive.



    Of course, blues isn't just limited to the Chess guys, there's stuff by Son House, Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Bukka White, Memphis Minnie, and also compilations on specific topics, be it female artists, dirty blues, instrumentals, etc. Early rural blues, to the coming of the British appreciation.



    Muddy Waters also did a series of albums on Blue Sky Records, which was Johnny Winter's label on Epic in the late 70's. There's a deluxe edition of his Mississippi album that is worth getting:







    There's also a series of CD's for each film shown in Martin Scorsese's The Blues[/b], including individual compilations for artists they felt were of interest.

    There are hundreds of Elmore James albums. Try to find a good collection. I had a Charly collection back in the 80s I liked.

    there is already a collection but it ain't that great and really not much of anything prior to the 90's

    i don't even know why i bother, the rednecks and hicks can't be bothered with the shit anyways, all they check out is american idol shit and jessica simpson

    Arhoolie, Alligator, and Tomato are three labels that have come out with a lot of blues in the last 25 years, so if you want music that's more recent, check those labels out.

    A lot of Tomato's releases are reissues, to be fair, but as far as contempo labels, Music Maker and Fat Possum are key (even though Fat Possum feels the need to stick at least one dance remix on their Delta blues releases).

    if anyone is interested in some current blues that doesnt suck,Kenny Brown is the real deal, just wait until this dudes new LP with his new rhythmn section drops, it will be fire. He wrote a lot of RL Burnside's better tunes,is a sideman on a lot of Fat Possum stuff, grew up down the road from Fred McDowell and took lessons from him when he was a tennager and can rock a place for three hours...he plays at the Buccanner Lounge at least once a month(although his bass player, T-Money, has broken collarbone right now, so they havent played in a couple months). He has an acoustic LP out, although good, it really doesnt represent what dude is capable of...dude can get down on some hot ass juke joint steez.


    I have no recordings to post...sorry, like in the best old-school blues tradition, you gotta go see him to hear him..for the time being at least...
