This might come too late but here's a few personal favorites:
J.R. Bailey: Love, Love, Love The Chi-Lites: That's How Long Billy Preston: Same Thing Again Lee Fields and the Expressions: Honey Dove Masterplan: Only You Tammi Terrell: Baby, Don'tcha Worry
At Last - Ella Bring your animal house soundtrack and you can play: What a wonderful World This Would Be by Sam Cooke and later play the version of Shout on there which I find works way better than the original. Heatwave - Always and Forever (and play boogie nights later if it's right) Sea of Love - depending on how square your crowd is - the original or the Robert Plant one. I find erring on the side of squareness best for weddings but I don't know your peeps. Chubby Checker's Twist will get the old folks out on the floor. "I Will Survive" is a must for the ladies (you WILL have a bride's maid demanding it so you better have it)
I played a wedding for friends where the girl had her huge extended Filipino family there. The Anglo side is on the floor but I'm throwing everything I have at the seated folks with nothing but
coming back. I'm at a loss but she comes to my rescue to tell me that they only like to do line dances and I should play the chicken song. Fortunately I burned a CD of line dance songs that I hoped I wouldn't have to play.. but there it was.. the most enthusiastic chicken dance and macaranae I'd ever witnessed.. at least until I ran out of line dances.
I say don't be afraid to get too cheesy. The more familiar the songs are to every man, woman and child 10-80 the better. Have a blast.. weddings are a fun time and great gigs to play especially if you know the families.
