The Dunk Contest = Turntablism........exausted possibilities.

I want to see them put a defender on the floor.

Let dudes try to dunk on Ron-Ron or somebody.

  • the defender in a dunk contest will never happen because of potential injuries...as well as embarrasing sportscenter sonnings for years to come.

but...when Bo Kimble was a senior in college (1990?) I got tickets to to this weird 1-on-1 competition at one of the Trump casino's in Atlantic City. First, they had the one-on-one thing. It was all seniors from that year, i remember Bo Kimble because he won it, but Lionel Simmons and some other major studs were in it as well.

Anyway, after that was over, they had a dunk competition...but it was strictly judged on how high you could dunk. They basically treated it as an olympic event and would raise the basket by a few inches each round. The whole contest is a haze for me, but I swear that thee dude who won it had the hoop at like 12 and a half feet. The earlier rounds were kind of boring but when it got real high, people were going nuts cause some of these dudes looked like they were flying.

You're right, of course, but it's just about the only thing that would get me interested at this point.

It seems like the new cats have taken the contest to the next level when it comes to tricks and gimmicks, but in the end the whole thing just seems way too cerebral. Why do those old dunks still look so much better to this day? because they had grace and finesse, which is either something you got or you dont. All these circus maneuvers nowadays are just cooked up to hide that fact.
