This whole record is just one angry peon to broken relationships. I really dig "This is the Last Day of Our Acquaintance". That pretty much says it all.

    this thread scares me

  • Sufjan Stevens- Dumb I Sound.

"But you, are in love with someone else, but you, want to be with someone else"
    For the real "I-fucking-hate-the-world-and-you-but-I-still-kinda-want-you-back" period.

    Geto Boys- Dirty Bitch

Eddy Current Suppression Ring- So Many Things.

Garage punk with the lead singer doing a half monologue.
"Moving on, don't need you, doing my head in, with your bullshit attitude, stop being rude".
and "You're a bitch. Well, your not a bitch, your nice to everyone but me. Everyone but me!"

I think I listened to a lot of Jens Lekman and El Perro Del Mar after my last breakup.

Oh, and when you're feeling a bit better about it all, the Kings Of Convenience album is quite good.

Giving up is hard to do
    When you really love someone
Giving up .... so hard to do
    When you still depend upon
    Her warm and tender touch
Her kiss and her hug..........her caress
Oooooh that used to mean so much
    And bring you happiness
    Woooo ooooooooh

Giving up, so hard to do
    I've tried
But it just ain't no use
Giving up, so hard to do
    I said I've tried
But it just ain't no use
But my light of hope is burning dim
    But
But in my heart I pray
That my love and faith in the girl
My love...will bring her back someday

I'm talking 'bout when you really love someone

    Whether
    Whether she knows or not
She really needs me tooThe little girl is all I got
    Yes she is
And giving, giving up is hard to do
    Giving up
    So hard to do
    Heey...giving up
    So very hard to do
    I said I've tried
Hey, but I just can't get loose
    Giving up
So hard for me to do
I don't want to lose you
Cause you mean so much to me

Gladys Knight/Pips' version if you feel a little pissed and rowdy, Donny Hathaway's version if you're feeling devastated.

I knew you was fuckin' around
Playing all innocent and hoing since the foundation
Don't make me have to pound his thin crown face in
And risk being jammed up like traffic inbound from space in
There's been a place for you in my heart since we first met
A teenage love that didn't feel no hurt yet
My boys warned you was poison like BBD first cassette
And still I put all my chips on the worst bet
Gave up the skirt, now I gotta hear it from the street
How dare you drag my name in the dirt and cheat
You coulda broke it off and ended it and dipped
And if you spoke soft coulda still preserved the friendship
Now you apologize that's what they all say
You wasn't sorry when you sucked him off in the hallway
But have it your way, raw no foreplay
That's you if you want a dude who wear a mask all day
And just to think I used to be proud of you
And you had some real good power

Probably kissed me that same evening I should be hurling
Matta fact, gimme back my bracelet and my sterling
I'd rather waste it or give it to ya girlfriend
She did let me stab it last week while you was working
Remember our vacation out to Maryland?
    I dooked the maid Carolyn
She made me throw the towel in
Like all fool men the times I hit ya moms off
I told her knock it off
But she had to set the rocket off
Ain't enough room in this fuckin' town
    When you see thin head
    Tell 'em be duckin' down
    I'm not rompin' around
He better be armed ready and prepared
To be stomped in the ground

    YES.

Although I've never been dumped, if I ever am (), Erma Franklin's "Take a Little Piece of My Heart" would be the break-up song I'd listen to the most. There are a lot of British rock songs that I like, too, but this is probably not the appropriate forum to discuss.

  • being my interpretation of the song, i could be off, but bob dylan's JUST LIKE A WOMAN once hit me as a killer break-up song...
