I ate geoduck for the first time on December 31st. I spent $75 for steamed geoduck at a Cantonese restaurant. I ordered it, and the waiters came back to make sure i wanted it, surely thinking 'stupid gwailo spending money on something he can't appreciate'. It was as well done as I imagine steamed geoduck can be, but largely interesting only for its texture. Its taste was a cross between softshell clam and abalone. I'm glad I experienced it, but I suspect that, like shark's fin soup, it's appeal is largely in its price--status food more thaning anything else.
