Maybe I missed it already but a couple of LPs & some free 45s to go in the piles never to be listened to. Anybody know that American Blues Exchange LP? Looks cool, haven't listened to it yet. Robert Gordon upgrade from CD to LP & I hope the Brenton Wood is cool, can't wait to check his take on 'Psychotic Reaction'. I really need to listen to the shit I buy 45s were:Bee Gees - Spicks & Specks (German press)James Brown - Santa Claus Is Def Here To StayCCR - GrapevineDexy's - EileenFlaming Ember - Mind Body SoulOscar Peterson - Man I Love & Serenade In BlueJohnny Preston - Cradle Of LoveProclaimers - 500 Miles (hey it was free)

Just by virtue of the fact that it's a soul cover
of "Psychotic Reaction" it gets a thumbs up, but the
actual execution is a pretty bleh. He sings over the
original backing track of the Count Five song, but with
the music mixed WAY down, and his voice rides way over
the top, as he scats the lyrics and does a little rap
about kicking game to girls with oogum boogum - they
also add a keyboard, which is mixed way too loud also -
so the overall effect is of Brenton Wood singing and
accompanying himself on organ while "Psychotic Reaction"
    plays in the other room.

I may have to hear this for myself now. Defintely sounds like it is worth the $2.50 I paid for it in the country section of the local store. Gotta love those mis-filed LPs

OK, I see what you mean, indeed. A good idea in theory though, just wish the execution was better.

  • records ive bought during the last two weeks

    finds, ebay, recordshow, flee market

  • hey, how is that namysloski record?

  • That Brenton Wood record is THEE SHIT for reasons having naught to do with "Psychotic Reaction". Check the title track, "Gimme Little Sign", "I'm The One Who Knows", and "Best Thing I Ever Had" for sweet Losangelino lowrider garage-soul.

I hit an out of the way thrift and found these:

I went to 3 of the 4 thrifts in town and all i came home with was
Minute by minute by the doobies for a friend that is yacht rock obsessed.

i think that your one trip to that thrift sonned all of the thrift runs that i have ever done combined

  • you should see the haul of psych records I got from the goodwill last year.

Nice thrift come-up, I will never get over how dope that Ike Turner record is.

  • hey, how is that namysloski record?

its great, i like the drums on this lp, i bought the adam makowicz record without listening to it first, cause ive heard a lot of guys talking aout it, but the drums on that one is too far out for me, its a lot of nice rhodes & basslines on every track on both albums, but too much sax on the zbigniew namyslowski record in my opinion, but the last track on it is totally killing it. that track also got some nice drum/synth/rhythm guitar breaks. the makowicz record got lot of semi-trippy open drums, both records are great for sampling, but the namyslowski is the one i prefer to just sit down andl isten to. the makowicz record are way more jazzy than funky, compared to the namyslowski.

fuck it. i hate to try to explain what records sounds like.

    I call your bluff.

  • is that funk inc. record written by galt mc dermot or david axelrod? or is that another one?

  • you're talking about "Priced To Sell", produced by Axelrod.

Well, the cover of "Psychotic Reaction" is lame, but the real tune here is "I'm the One Who Knows". Lovely, lovely song...

I love Brenton Wood's take on Psychotic Reaction - note the original backing track gets played a little longer than on the OG
