mini-golf and the BarKays... finally united.

  • Every time I hear someone mention G.G. Shinn (which isn't nearly often enough), I think back to the last time I saw my now departed grandma. She lived in New Iberia, Louisiana, and I was still living in Texas, so I was driving there on I-10. When I got to Lake Charles, I was going through the local radio stations and stopped on a pretty killer song. The DJ came on as it ended and, in the thickest Cajun accent I've ever heard on the airwaves, said, "Dat was G.G. Shinn and His Hot Damn Band." He also pronounced the name of the town as Lacque Sharl.

Just one of the many great memories from that trip, which also included fried alligator and drive-through daiquiris from a place with a port-a-sign that read, "TJs DAIQUIRI CONGRATULATES THE 1996 NEW IBERIA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES."

I marinated on that as I sipped my Crawgator (a snowcone with Everclear) and drove back to my grandma's with the margarita flavor she had requested.

    Thanks for posting this, Terry.
