People can you throw me essential modern soul songs that I need to know about created from 2000 until now? I like Mario "Let Me Love You", and Cassie "Me and You" if this song is considered soul, I don't know. I don't know if these songs even fall into a soul category. I love the feeling of these songs and the vibe they give off. Open my mind please and stop my ignorance.

  • D'Angelo is a favorite. His "Brown Sugar" album is a top ten for me, but that's from 95. Voodoo was released in 2000. Two of my favorites from that are: Chicken Grease and Left & Right ft. Redman & Method Man (gotta get the Red Astaire remix of this called "follow me" though).

    R. Kelly ft. Notorious B.I.G. "Be Happy" is a pretty good.

Dwele is the man. "Down Jimi" from Rize is my favorite song by him. It might also go by the name "Too Fly"... not sure really. Hold On is a decent track with a hot beat by Kanye West.

It's pretty poppy, but I like Used 2 Be by Ryan Leslie.

Nicole Willis and The Soul Investigators is a REAL soul record that came out this year.

  • you might like Jaheim's "like a dj"

Raphael Saadiq - "Body Parts" & "Be Here"

Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Leela James are my favorite female new soul artists.

Yes, Comin from where i'm from is one of my favorite albums. His new one from this year is good too, but not as good.

As mentioned in another thread, Van Hunt is pretty good.

    Aaliyah's S/T
    Teedra Moses
Brandy - Full Moon (I forget when this came out but its about right)
Ginuwine - 100% Ginuwine (I think this might be '99)
Amerie's first album, her second one is good too
Joi has some shit i like
    Kelis
I guess its kind of an 'event' album at this point like JT's from this year, but Mariah's album from last year.

Also I think Omarion's new singles have been great but haven't heard the new album.

dude one of Mr_Burns examples was Cassie so I figured he was going for a loose interpretation of 'soul music'
Also, R Kelly = R&B? Soul? R&B/HipHop Fusion? Pop amalgamation?
Amerie's first album is not "hip-hop fusion."

    RS 2002:

"Skyy, Can You Feel Me?" was the first song I thought of when I saw the thread title. To me that would be a prime example of some hardasfuck new millenium soul.

Shit, thanks for reminding me to re-buy this record. One of the things I haven't got round to replacing yet after my ex-wife took it with her when she split.
