The local flea market has been good of late. Got the ARE YOU EXPERIENCED LP by T. Swift & Electric Bag last week for a buck.
And today I got five 45s for $20:

The 45s are kinda veegeeminusish but they sound good enough. MP3s here:
The Fenton Robinson was the best bargain, as mint copies are currently retailing for 100 bucks (Moerer) and 75 quid (Manship).
The Jo Ann Garrett is my 2nd favorite of the lot (after the Fenton), no doubt because of the can't lose arranging/production team of Charles Stepney & Andre Williams.
The Gents on Sound Impression is an outta tune psychedelic group soul oddity and I've found no info on it. Any help?
that nina has the unbelievable[/b] version of "to love somebody". chokes a man up! With rediculous drum fills for days to boot. also a totally sick version of 'just like tom thumbs blues'. whhooosh...
real cool xian soul/ funky gospel joint, think its sorta rare too...
You really think it's that good, R*s? IMO the cover is the most interesting thing about that record. The singing is not that strong and for a gospel record it lacks intensity overall. I sold my copy to Pac over a year ago. I didn't think this record would be up your alley, or else I would have given it to you for free.
Haven't been out this weekend, and I probably won't have any funds for record buying all december unless KODA comes through with a bonus check. Got to save some money for all the Christmas hooplah + spending New Years Eve in Berlin.

yes i do recall you had this, you know im not really into this genre but apart from the dope cover there is two parts on two of the tracks on this joint i dig, the long soulful/ spiritual piano+ drums intro of He Calmed The Ocean, and another bit from a second track which i'll explain to you on a later tip, auwright!!
Guy brings about 300 records into the store this morning.' Lotsa Babs, Al Hirt, Toto, Johnny Mathis, Jerrry Vale, Welk, etc. etc. Maybe 30 usable LP's and this includes Willie Nelson, Creedence and some other not so raers. There was however a mint promo copy of this (which I'm keeping):

and I got fifty 45s at a library sale for $1 total, nothing amazing but the highlights include: Linda Jones- Your Precious Love (Turbo) The Winstons- Color Him Father/Amen, Brother (Metromedia)- 2 copies Plastic Ono Band- Touch Me/Power to the People (Apple) Curtis Mayfield- So In Love/Hard Times (Curtom) Joe Frazier- Knock Out Drop/Gonna Spend My Life (Capitol) The Gestures- Run, Run, Run/It Seems to Me (Soma)- one of my favorite "garage" or whatever tunes Betty Everett- I Got To Tell Somebody/Why Are You Leaving Me? (Fantasy) Lee Dorsey- Everything I Do Gonh Be Funky/There Should Be a Book (Amy)
It wasn't me who bought it, but I can probably tell you anyway. I THINK I know what that album is, and it was probably inevitable that this elpee would resurface somewhere...
After the Star Wars flick came out (obviously), some label had these studio musicians record original, schlocky pop-rock songs about it, rather than do songs from it. And then they marketed by TV mail order, titling it Living In These Star Wars (I forget the artist's name, but then again that probably wasn't the point). I actually remember seeing the commercial once or twice on Saturday afternoon teevee, during the commercial break of the Monstrous Movie. Even as a grade-schooler I wasn't fooled into thinking they were original s/t songs, but I bet it would be good to hear today for a laugh. And if there's a personnel listing, we might just see a famous name or two trying to pay some bills. Doesn't it have a sappy ballad called "Leia?"
Real clever the way they used the exact same Star Wars logo, but then inverted the "s" in Wars to keep George Lucas (or whoever the director was) and his lawyers away...
