Hello everyone... I gotta admit, I'm kind of lying in my first post. You see, I'm living in the "Greater Seattle Area", which sounds much better than saying you live in Everett. For those of you whom are not familiar with the surrounding cities of Seattle, Everett mixes in all of those great urban crime elements with a meth lab, trailer park charm... all wrapped up in a 1980s time warp! I've lived here for 12 1/2 years though, so it cant be that bad. I've been into digging seriously for 3 years, into "old music" (marvin, brenton wood, curtis) for 8. Been doing beats since I got serious about digging, got some cool projects coming up music-wise I don't want to talk about until they are sealed & in the pocket, but I don't want to be cryptic because it may give the false impression I'm desparately reaching for what is known as "E-PrOpz" haha. I'm a frequent contributor on the-breaks.com but I'm looking for a job right now (went traveling for a few months) so I have a lot of... "free time" right now Look forward to being a contributor to the board, thanks for having me add me on that myspace thingamajigger if you likewww.myspace.com/macktheknifeproductions

A good Shawn Kemp story a friend of mine told me from circa 2004

Shawn Kemp went into the Shoreline best buy, and everybody in the high end TV dept. got allllllll excited... "Yes, we can sell one of our top end TV's today! High pts. for the department!" Shawn looks at the TV's... doesn't ask for help, keeps walking... Shawn walks to the stereo systems... doesn buy anything... Shawn goes to the DVD players... looks around... and ends up only buying...

A VCR. Nice to see home still respects those old school tapes!

    welcome to the board man

  • i have the distinct pleasure of being alumni of cascade high school, graduating class of 1988. if you think it is stuck in the 80s now, you should have been there in the 80s! everett had some records 10 years ago as i recall.

  • welcome you lucky s.o.b. so much great records in the seattle area. why is that?
    peace, stein. . .

Lots of untouched joints up here.. There are some records in abundance like no other your usual 20-30 dollar bunch... but the super raers are hard as hell to come by... hence the title super raEr case in point: Ive only seen Don Blackman once, Gordons War once, etc... If you are willing to do your homework here though and pack a lunch you can really come away with some weird ass shits to sample from. Not to mention the offbeat japanese, filipino, spanish shits (but they have been done to death). I did manage to cop the 8 minutes record for like 19 bucks. (hip yourself to it if you don't already know, it's good stuff)

A good example... I saw the thunder kiss joint (backwards) before i had seen an OG Axelrod. I blame it on the record collectors around here for being like hawks and having the inside scoop

To the cascade alumni, I stay in the Eastmont area actually, like 2 mins away.

Not that I really dig a lot anymore but the records have dried up in Seattle like everywhere else. Everett used to be on fire back in the day. Budget had the sick 12" collection and the Golden Oldies "Twilight Zone" was that shit!

Everett is kinda hard as far as the pacific northwest goes. Saw some wild fights go down at some under 21 club when I was in high school up there. It was the only place I ever heard "Drought Season" in rotation too. lol

You mean club broadway? My older brother used to be a bouncer there, and he would come up with some nasty nasty nasty stories lol. I used to use his club broadway bouncer shirt to go buy beer when I was 16 on casino road

There would be more records around here if a certain beatmaker and a certain DJ w/ his name tatted on his neck had not snapped up them all to make some (excellent) mixtapes

Couldnt you have left one Don Blackman? lol Now I gotta rock the Dusty Groove reissue

Like everywhere else their is alot more competition compared to back in the day...
You gotta hit the right spots on the regular to come up.
I've been boning up on my indie rock lately for stuff to flip, and it's been working
    out fairly well.

I don't think it was club broadway. Some piece of crap place on the main street that leads to I-5. Bjorn Supreme is a dick. He used to leave stickers that said "supreme already dug in these crates" everywhere he went. That shit was everywhere. Btw I think I got Don Blackmon for a $1 at 2nd Time.
