talk about heavy handed, did anyone else see this?If I didn't get to write off my movie tickets at the end of the year I would of asked for a refund. Even Spike lee has a more subtle way of injecting messages into his films.On the good side, Wilmer Valderama did a pretty good job

I haven't seen it, but have you read the book? It's a condemnation of the industry and american fast food culture, definitely not intended to be even handed.

Sidenote- the author gave a speech at my college graduation. It was a very liberal school (obviously) and some of the more conservative family members in the audience got up and left. It was pretty funny.

Haven't seen the film, but found a review on ChristianAnswers.net that was so unintentionally ironic that I thought it must be some kind of joke. Here's the first paragraph:

"On the thankfully rare occasions that I am subjected to fast food, I can honestly admit I don't stop to put a whole lot of thought into where my food came from, or how it got from the farm to my plate. "Super Size Me" gave me plenty of reasons not to ponder these things; particularly, the test involving the French fries that never seem to go bad, no matter how many months they sit around in a jar. How is that possible? Well, some things are better left unknown, right? Who wants to spend the time and money figuring out what is actually in some of our favorite foods when we can unquestioningly consume it just like millions and millions of other hungry people?"

I can't say I have any desire to see this movie, though. I thought the book was great, but not once did I think, "You know, this would make a gripping, must-see movie!"

i haven't seen this movie, and heard that it isn't that sucessful...but i never get this whole argument that movies have to be objective. no one is objective. this film is presenting an argument against something that has been lauded and tauted by mainstream culture for it for 50 years...why can't there be a few things against it ? then we can look back and make the choice.

personally i have eaten at mcdonalds 3 times in the last 3 years and i don't miss it.

people should be questioning this whole commodified/consumeristic culture in america. a good place to start would be the food. look out the window, everybody is fat! it's not an accident where there is cheap, plentiful (and unhealthy food) there are lots of fat people.

Exactly. Can anyone say Super-Size Me? The movie has already been made, and it was awesome. No need to do it again.

I havent seen this movie be criticised for being unobjective. I have however seen it be criticised because its plot and characterisation serve as little more than vehicles for its agenda therby making it predictable, boring and feeling more like a sermon than a movie.

As far as the fast food industry being lauded I have no clue what you are talking about. The product it sells has been most commonly known by the term 'junk food' for decades. This movie wont do anything because most importantly its dramatically dull and also because its based on an assumption common amongst lefties, that the only reason people dont share their opinion is because they arent sufficiently informed. People arent stupid, they know that

a)mcdonalds et al exist to make money not to be your friends

b)that if you need to lose weight a chesseburger and fries arent going to help you out

c)if you pay a buck for something thats served to you in 60 seconds its unlikely to be of a gourmet standard in either ingredients or preparation

d)the shits made out of cows

e)burger flippers aint driving porches

if the people who eat at fast food joints were the type to be much troubled by the emotional distress of farm animals or the other stuff featured in this movie they wouldnt be eating there in the first place.
