1 out 2 from 30 people waiting in a lottery at a Meijer department store, probably the least last person there that wanted one but got one.

A friend of mine has one and said he's not all the impressed for the price. But he's only played 2 games on it and he said both Ridge Racer 7 & Call of Duty seem better on the 360.

I wouldn't mind playing around with that wii system for a bit tho.

I saw the news about the online auction problem because of the japanese hackers. They PS3's are selling for $590 US in Japan now on Yahoo auction sites as people are scarred to bid or list items. A lot of the "re-sellers" are saying they've lost money now because of listing fee's and bogus bids. They're using fake accounts, jumping the price up, not paying and making people pay the listing fee. I saw mention that a PS3 hit 11,000 US or 11,000,000 because of these hackers. How does Ebay work? Do they let their % slide if it's some shit like that?

I'm a little baffled they have the upscaling/720p input issue. I'm seeing reports all over the net about it. Pretty sad a machine at that cost can't upscale, or is forcing 480p gaming depending on the year your LCD/Plasma was made. lol

Well most new systems always have problems at the jumpoff. I heard about probs with getting HDMI going. But there is a work around I saw posted somewhere.

My friend has gotten a couple of fucked up error screens. And on a whole isn't blown away. He hasn't tried to watch a blueray movie yet. With all the hype, I'm betting Sony takes a few lumps on this.

HA.. Entertaining to say the least. Maybe the price has something to do with someone making the statement that the ps3 is aspowerful as a supercomputer the other day.

    89 mil

    Crazy.

Why does Bill Gates need a PS3 anyways???

    heh

From a technological point of view, the PS3 is the equivalent to Stealth Bombers coming outta no where during Desert Storm. The technology and computing power that has gone into the PS3 is something that the everyday person has never really had access to. Let's do the math a little...

    Processing Power:
If current trends of processing power in computers were to have continued from what was projected in the mid 90's, our current computer should be somewhere near 10 GHz by now. Unfortunately, things have seemed to peak off at around the 2 GHz area due to laws of physics and fabrication techniques. The PS3 is boasting a 4GHz processor right out the box compared to the Xbox 360 3.2 GHz. Pretty impressive.

    Bit Architecture:
While the average computer is running 32-bit applications, the PS3 drops some crazy 128-bit processing, double the Xbox 360 with 64-bit processing. And I thought I made a nice computer with a 64-bit processor in there...oh well...

    Calculations:
Reports have been saying that the PS3 will be able to do 2 Teraflop of calculations compared to 1 Teraflop by the Xbox 360. Compare this to an Mac G5 clocked at 9 Gigaflop and both the PS3 and 360 are pretty impressive.

From the perspective of an electrical engineer, the PS3 is really amazing. There's a BUNCH of other features to discuss as well...but it all gets technical. This all doesn't mean ish though if they don't have good games and can't sell. What interests me even more though is that I know researchers who are interested in getting PS3's, loading Linux on them, linking them together (which can be done wirelessly), and crunching huge mathematical tasks on them. You can get the equivalent to a sub-par supercomputer without paying millions of dollars and investing tons of time, to use one of the few supercomputers that exist today. There have even been talks of Sony starting to sell the chip to computer manufacturers as well.

Ill wait till the price drops and the catalog expands.

I'm not saying there isn't some kewl things about about it.

But with 256 RAM I don't think you can call this thing anywhere near a supercomputer. And yes... If you linked about 100 of them together, you would get some pretty solid amount of numbers crunching going on.

the one on Dixie Hwy, didn't camp either, just walked in before midnight.

Yeah, after I one won the ticket lottery, a police officer rolls up with two PS3's in a grocery cart, then asks if I would like an escort out to my car, hell yeah, when will I get that chance again. Me and the chinese kid were the only one to win.

Think I should wait before christmas to sell on ebay, or now? I'm thinking right now.

Yes, but all this is mute once you try to develop games at 1080i. Since the PS3 is using GSX at the core, the 360 is easily 6x faster at that resolution. The PS3's entire core is ideal for 720p gaming and was designed as such. Granted most games are being developed at 720p right now anyhow, but if in the future things change the PS3 will show it's got issues.

I just finished working on the xbox 360 title called saints row (my first experience in the industry). I worked in the audio department, helped select music for the game, etc.
I was really shocked by the nearly unanimous opinion that this would be the last Sony console that would go to production. Some of the reasons that I can recall at the moment (cuz I really dont care) were that:

-microsoft already has a huge customer base for the 360 and that if gamers were to get a second console it was widely believed to most likely be the WI due to price (half the ps3), games (you can download the entire nintendo collection...eventually), and the innovative controller

-sony looses to much money on each console sold. If I remember correctly the 360 was projected to turn a profit in Q4 (quarter 4) of its second year on the market or at latest Q1 of the third. Due to the cost of what goes into each ps3 as well as the R&D cost of that stuff the ps3 most likely wont turn a profit until Q4 of its third year on the market or q1 of year four. to much time without a profit.

-despite having more speed under the bonnet the ps3 will not be able to compete with the 360's online gaming support structure.

-sony is not doing well financially as late with the complete failure of UMD media and the PSP.

-by the time the ps3 comes out (now) the release schedule for 360 titles will be ramping up dramatically (which it has). Combine that with the new halo coming out shortly and you have a whole lot more gaming options, and more triple-A titles at that.

so that what I heard from peeps at work. there was more there but I cant remember the other reasons right now. it may be insider opinion or complete crap. just thought it was interesting and I would add it to the conversation.

I bought a 360 because I wanted to play the game I worked on. I got it a day ahead of release cuz it came straight from microsoft. I should of flipped it in retrospect but didnt because I could have lost my job - which I no longer have now anyway. I have enjoyed it though and have bought way more titles then I thought I would have. I have fun with the games I have but if the graphics were to look even better it would not increase the level of fun any more. I am not a "gamer" so maybe I deviate from that groups needs up bleeding-edge technology though. I enjoy games for the sake of fun and to me the most bang for the buck looks like its going to be the nintendo. But really, whatevs......
