A torrent file has information about whatever files you're trying to download and acts as a pointer to a tracker site(s). These tracker sites (like the ones posted previously) contains the information on who is currently uploading and downloading said files. There are general public tracker sites for movies, software, music, e-books, etc. as well as private (need an invite/registration process) ones that tend to have a more specific purposes (e.g., DVD-s released in Asia, art films, music leaks of a specific genre, porn, etc.)

It's a more decentralized way of sharing stuff than using something like limewire/kazaa because virtually any website can act as a tracker site, and in some cases, you don't even need a tracker site reference (see: trackerless torrents). It's also generally faster than say something like edonkey because you're wasting less transferring time on overhead due to downloading a single file or small group of files per torrent.

For someone starting out, I'd reccomend Azureus on the Mac and utorrent (which is like a stripped down version of Azureus that's much more memory efficient while retaining all the options 99% of users care about) on a PC...both are freeware.

Decent tutorial on torrents in general + using azureus

please give a review once you've had a chance to give it the once over.

  • It must be difficult to watch an entire movie on a 2 inch screen... Music videos might be prett ycool though.

I've had the video i-pod since june, and its great.

Being able to take a movie(s) with you is great.

I found the 30 gig to be MORE than plenty of space, with 25 movies and EVERY song I own on it..its a great time waster.

Video quality is as good as the resolution will allow.

Sho gun Assasin for i-pod looks great....BTW

Some small details are lost because of that, but not enough to disappoint.

Making your own movies for the i-pod is EZ with this converter

    Pretty simple.

I bought a video ipod last winter... and haven't watched a video on it since last winter. It's a cool gimmick, but how often do you really find yourself out of the house wishing you could watch a movie?

Not only that, but I think the battery life when watching videos is only around 2 hours, so you can watch about one movie on a charge.

I did convert a few small videos to carry around, but otherwise I don't mess with videos on the thing too much. I'd rather save the disk space and battery life for music files.
